News Round Up 2016

these posts bug me, sorry @rteetz
we dont know how he really feels so there is no reason to speculate. The same things were said about avatar and Joe.
To me its seems people who already have a bias toward this project go and assume based on their frame of reference that he must not like it. the reality is we dont know how he feels
I understand but from what I know about Joe is he doesn't like being forced into something. We're on a discussion board all we can do is speculate and have opinions. I'm a huge Joe Rohde fan but I think he feels he could do more with this property.

IMO the marvel/joe rohde thing doesnt feel right but maybe he loves marvel i have no idea lol

sad to hear it has been confirmed. i really hope they keep TOT @ WDW forever. i do hope that if they add a guardians ride they add it somewhere else or change something in EPCOT.

I'm sure Rhode would love to have more freedom to do whatever he likes without having an IP attached, but I don't necessarily think he feels upset about having to work with Marvel or Pandora. He was assigned to Marvel for a reason, after all. They don't just assign any random member of Imagineering to be in charge of such a big (and potentially controversial) project.

Looks lovely but I've got to admit I was hoping for a little more in terms of effects. It's hard to get a full sense of the place from the video, but it would have been so cool to have moving props, optical illusions, different magic-y stuff like that. I like the theme and I think it fits the Boardwalk nicely.

Same. The posters change, which is nice, but I was hoping for more over the top, Trader Sam's-level effects.

Since this doesn't seem to affect DHS and WDW is much closer to me, I think it'll be just fine. After all, it does mean that DCA is going to be able to incorporate Marvel finally and the best ToT remains.

But honestly, how hard is going to be to ride GotG and not think about elevators?

Now, Joe, quit fooling around with Disneyland and get down here and fix Epcot!

Loss of ToT. Although it was not an original attraction from Walt, it's one of the more iconic rides Disney has at any of it's parks. People are not gonna be happy to lose it

100% agree about it's legendary status - but it's still in Florida, in it's best iteration. Folks can make the trip if they want to ride it that badly.

Not necessarily blaming Joe Rhode but as I watch the video it sounds more and more like the dumbest idea I've ever heard. Literally just build your own ride ANY ride instead of cannibalizing a ride already there. We'll see what happens but I really don't know how this is gonna work out

They are building a ground-up GotG E-ticket in Epcot. I get your point about trying to shoehorn a new theme into an existing attraction as opposed to a more organic process. OTOH, one could argue that it's smart to re-use existing, proven ride tech and facilities if they can do it right. It will be finished faster, save money, and let them move more quickly on the Marvel stuff over there. Sometimes being forced to work within parameters can enhance creativity - it will certainly be faster than a complete blue sky process. The proof will be in the pudding.

I was thinking the same thing, but the same principles of storytelling, theme, immersion, whatever will apply regardless of the material. I'm sure plenty of Imagineers actually designing this stuff love Marvel, and as a professional Rhode should be able to successfully oversee any project, even if he hates the IP.

I really don't think there's any danger of it leaving.

I look forward to this! Twilight Zone as an IP has very little relevance in modern day, and isn't a Disney property. I've only been to Disneyland in California twice, but am happy that if we go a third time, this ride will now be even more different than the WDW counterpart.

Not quite ground up but close. The energy building will still be there but completely gutted and then it will be added onto. The Epcot project will be much more involved than DCA ToT.
