News Round Up 2016

Interesting. I've ridden the ride many times with him working hard and now him hardly working and the overall experience doesn't seem to change that much for me.

I think it was less than a year that she worked. After that there were two different modes-- betty lite and disco yeti, I believe....If you don't think the experience has changed, you probably never saw the full working mode.

When did he stop working? We first rode EE in Feb 08 and while I can't be sure of the Yeti's functioning, I remember it being so great! We've been back since but my memory is so foggy!

The park opened in 98. So it was probably late 98 early 99 when the problems first surfaced. If I remember right it worked off and on till 2000.

Brush and trees have been cleared between world drive and catastrophe canyons former site. The LMA bleachers are completely visible from world drive now. Also noticed what looked to be parts of the over head conveyor laying on the opposite side of world drive. Will try and get some pics on my way into work tomorrow.

Thanks! Conveyor should be going up very soon. LMA demo should be happening in a week or two.

We'd need smell-a-vision too! There is something to be said for a ride through of the rides in VR. Of course, not sure if that is good or bad. It'd be the death of dark rides though...

Imagine if you could actually get a full 360 HD/4K VR view of Peter Pan. Why would you ever stand in the line again? For a roller coaster, it makes sense. But a ride like Small World, Little Mermaid, or Peter Pan? The ride itself is basically motionless. Eliminate the cameras and flashing and distractions and give a pure view with clean sound and video in a VR environment? It'd be very hard to imagine that this wouldn't give you a 90-100% experience of the ride - and if it does... why bother?
VR, as much as it have advanced nowadays, still can't compete with the real thing. Sure I would love to experience the dark rides as many times I want in the comfort of my couch, I wouldn't trade to being phisically there. 3D/VR is miles from replacing reality, and this comes from a 3D/VR fanboy.

I hate to say "never" but VR will never completely replace reality. Your mind will always know what you are experiencing isn't real. For some it will be enough, but for many - reality is reality. I love skiing, and I can't imagine how VR would ever fool me into thinking it was a real experience.

Take Peter Pan as an example, the thing that makes that ride great is that you are actually flying over that miniature city/island. If I put on a headset and WATCHED it, I'd do that once. I wouldn't go back again and again.

Now you want to tell me VR will replace the cinematic movie experience, then there's an argument to be made.

Good VR can trick your brain into believing it's reality enough to give you motion sickness, but until the plug directly into the brain I don't think it will be able to simulate the other senses well enough. Thing is, I'm fairly sure they're going to plug directly into the brain one day, so I'm definitely not saying never.

Disney or anyone with Disney has never said they will do it when avatar opens that was just speculation. Joe Rohde has gone on record saying he will fix it though.

The problem is Joe doesn't control budgets, so it's not actually his call.

I strongly suspect he has argued for it multiple times.

Something about Awaken Summer just came in the mail. It says 'Mickey monitor summer 2016'. Going to read it now.

Postcards containing concept art for the tree of life awakening, a picture of Elsa, a picture of Kylo Ren and next to it, Rapunzel in the same position as Kylo were inside the Mickey monitor thing I just got.
