News Round Up 2016

its actually very imple. vader was old school and ren is hip and new and just like the old animation builoding would have a meet and greet for the newest animation movie that came out. star wars is bringing out the new disney characters to meet and greet and so you have kylo ren instead of vader becasue he is disney not lucas and most kids dont know who vader is, their parents do but younger ones know the villain is kylo ren and they only know an old hans solo, leai, and funny looking luke. those three are not the heros is star wars. time to realise that the old star wars are george lucas's but everything forward is disney and they want to capitolise on the disney product thats why the land will have a new planet and probably wont have luke or leiah involved or maybe even vader. the only reason the falcon is going to be there is that is was in episode 7

I agree with your take on their motivations...

But I think they are far oversimplifying the property they bought.

Star Wars is nothing like Pixar...or marvel...

The mythos that grew out of it...not to mention the products...filled some kind of natural void in pop culture that was present at that time. Not all things are equal. It was more like a lightning strike than a planned pattern.

I wonder exactly how deep the hole has to be for a person to hide in to have no exposure to darth Vader...

He's not really hard to find if you have contact with too many other humans...or 95% of all retail stores/websites.

It was more from the experience of that our friends have kids from about 7 to 18, and ALL the boys (and some of the girls) were into Star Wars LONG before this movie came out. I've been watching them play Darth Vader / Anakin / Obi-Wan for a long time. Vader is also all over Rebels - which is the current TV cartoon series.

Realistically - Vader is the more popular character. Kylo is coming to the meet and greet because he is the CURRENT character. I would bet in six months, they'll be bringing Vader back.

And one thing to remember as well - there is a VERY good chance that Darth Vader will be a/the villian in the next Star Wars movie. Rogue One tells the story of the people that stole the Death Star plans - which at the start of the original movie (A New Hope) - Darth Vader is chasing Leia to track them down. Can't imagine Disney wouldn't be saying "Do whatever you want in this movie - but work in Darth Vader."

I disagree. It makes for a very interesting and complex villain. Darth Vader is cool, and a BA. But he's pretty much emotionless and just "this is the bad guy. he is very bad." Putting characters like him into movies today is kind of lazy. I did not like the look of Kylo the first time I saw the movie, but it's grown on me. And the fact that he is such a lose cannon makes him exciting to watch. You never know what he's going to do.

Vader is actually a very shallow character in the original trilogy. He looks cool and he does badass stuff (which makes him better than Boba Fett) but his character depth in the first movie is essentially zero. He's a black hole. No background, no motivation, nothing. He's just EEEEVIL!

Even in Empire we really don't get much until the end of the movie, so any character progression comes in the Jedi and to be honest I don't think they sold the redemption that well. It has the same problem as his turn to the dark side in the prequels. It happens too quickly without sufficient motivation. Probably because regardless of any fairtyales that have been spun... that trilogy was not planned out in advance. There are seeds that should have been planted in the first movie that weren't.

Kylo Renn has a lot of potential for growth, but we can't really judge the character as a whole until the story plays out.

It's rare I agree with you, but we seem to be likeminded on Star Wars related things. Though I am a LITTLE less upset about Star Wars land being based around the new movies now that I know TFA was actually good. Though I'm still holding out hope the cantina resembles Mos Eisley instead of Maz's. It just makes no sense. People my age and the generation older than me would kill to visit the locations of the original trilogy. Nothing wrong with mixing in some of both.

The problem Disney have there is that Star Wars isn't set in one location. But they're being pushed to compete with Harry Potter which means they need an impressively themed single location that represents the bulk of the story.

So which location do you want? If you want the Cantina it has to be Mos Eisley which has some cool options to it (Falcon and Cantina, maybe Jabba) but rules out Hoth, Endor and anything from the new movies or prequels. Setting it on a new planet (not a planet from the sequels) is their compromise to get around that. You can get the feel of Star Wars and have assorted elements (wookies, ewoks, Falcon etc.) show up without being bound to a very narrow location and time frame.

Not perfect, but a reasonable compromise.

well according to the artwork it's going to be a very forested planet. so that really rules out either cantina but we know there is going to be one

Yes there will be a cantina. I'd also like to point out that this was early concept art the actual land may differ a bit from that art.

I do wonder if after these 6 star wars films whether Disney will give the franchise a rest or push straight in with even more films

I doubt they will but even as the biggest star wars nut ever, I wouldn't say no to a rest for a while after 6 films in 6 years.

I don't know how the Marvel fans do it, I've seen quite a few of them and now they have got to a point for me where I find them boring
