News Round Up 2016

Apparently now that Bob Weis got a much bigger job the second HKDL park is now dead. Bob was the project lead on that new park as well but had to shut it down after getting the new job. Hong Kong government is apparently still fighting to get that second park though and they have the land for it but it will sit empty until something is figured out. This second park would have been unique to Hong Kong.

Lol...perhaps anybody - it could be a janitor - who works in Disney's strategic planning read ANY financial news coming out of China in the last two years or so...

THAT woulda killed the second Hong Kong park.

I always thought, you could have a train to bring you to a star wars land that is not necessarily attached to the park. Simply call it a space transporter, add some lights during the motion to look like a hyper space journey. Since they are building it attached, it doesn't really need to happen.

hmmmm...a little to ripoff/budget for this concept I think

You calling me cheap? :rotfl2:

If you're saying you can sell a "Star Wars choo choo" to Star Wars fans...hell yes.

I think they could just take the wdw monorails off the tracks, send half to Disneyland and half to MGM and call them the "Star Wars shuttles"

...they're at the end of their operational usefulness anyway ;)

But the Hong Kong government is the one who really wants it. They want to distinguish from Shanghai now. Having two parks would help that. They are building a new hotel currently and the Iron Man attraction will be coming on board sooner than later. Hong Kong while still China is different than Shanghai.

Only Disney would say their popcorn bucket turns into a "beautiful luminary", but only Disney FANS would consider decorating their houses with popcorn buckets.:earboy2:

Hey, Disney puts out some cool ones! I have a neat Stitch popcorn bucket from Tokyo!

They've kept saying there will only be 2 attractions. I can count 3 in NFL, plus an added M&G, the second spinner to alleviate lines/crowds, plus the play/splash area. We all know this is going to be a smash hit...or at least busy as hell (at the beginning if it sucks) just because of the fanboys. There should be plans for those Jedi hunts, etc. as you said, but there should be something else.

I think they've talked about 2 new rides rather than attractions which would take Star Wars land to 3 rides, plus 1 attraction since it would include Star Tours and Jedi Training Academy at DHS, plus I think we can safely assume there will be meet and greets, and eating options (a Cantina was specifically called out).

And who knows maybe there will be another attraction of some sort that is not a ride like the wands in HP.

Over on wdwmagic Spirit is back and had some thoughts on the changes to imagineering.

He says that Bob Weis getting that job is a good thing and could lead to some better things coming out of imagineering in the future. Kathy Magnum's promotion is also a good thing with her adding DCL and DLP to her profile.

He also goes into say that Bob Chapek head of parks and resorts is pushing imagineering to get their timelines in check and pushing them to get things out sooner than previously thought. However he doesn't think Star Wars at DHS is done in 2018. That of course is yet to be seen.
I was glad to see him back.

If I understood what he said correctly then it looks like DL is moving along nicely but WDW not necessarily so much.

It's interesting that it's being said that DHS will take longer than DLR. It seems to me the claim that they will be exact (or close) replicas of eachother, and that both are going to require a teardown of existing park structures, it would make me think that they should be on similar timelines. Of course with DHS there is the Toy Story project which they may attempt to complete first (and Avatar, and Frozen/Norway 2.0 at Epcot).

I agree I'm playing a wait and see on this one. They will have the same attractions but will have some differences between the two.
