What are the four olds?
By: Xi-Wu Song
As we all know, our amazing leader Chairman Mao has just announced that all of the four olds need to be demolished. The four olds are considered Old Custom, Old Culture, Old Habits, and Old Ideas. If you try to be a good revolutionist like you should be, you have to destroy all of your possessions containing anything having to do with the four olds.
Everyone has been wondering why the four olds affect us. You probably ask yourself, What does Mao think my old stamp collection will do to China? The simple answer is that all of these items, even just a little stamp collection are a remnant of old society and are starting to interfere with the creation of a modern socialist society. (Ji-Li Jiang) Many civilians have had their houses searched and are beginning to feel betrayed, but it is really for the good of China. You dont want your actions to be the reason why China has an economic downfall do you?
There are some acceptable items that you can have that arent considered four olds. You can start to wear khaki military clothing; this will demonstrate your support for the revolution. Also, you can wear pants that are big enough to fit a beer bottle up the leg. Most of you regular household items such as beds and tables are considered fine unless they are extremely fancy and represent a bourgeoisie lifestyle.
There are many surprising items that are considered four olds that you might not consider to be. Some of these are fur coats, porcelain dishes, curtains, evening dresses, silk robes, cameras, watches, clocks, silverware and binoculars. Also, you should burn any of your classic literature works if you plan on being a good revolutionary. Fine china tables and extra good should be handed over, or else you will be labeled as a traitor. Please, for the sake of China, hand over all your unapproved goods and be a good revelotionary.
