News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

The charity I ran for in 2020 just found out that they got bibs for this coming season. They didn't specify how many, but they said they asked for a lot, not expecting to get them all, but it sounds like they did. They're going to approach people who deferred from the cancelled races first, but they should have plenty more and their registration will be open before regular runDisney registration.

I would imagine that all charities are getting the same news today.

I can confirm this too...my charity also go confirmation today. Thank you

I saw a post on Instagram saying that a large number of charities aren’t getting bibs, and that the Children’s Miracle Network is no longer working with runDisney. I’m not sure what’s going on but I guess some charities got good news today and others didn’t?

That’s definitely the case with the charity my boyfriend and I run through. We just heard today that they received 0 bibs, despite apparently submitting their request as soon as the window opened to.

I don't know about a large number not getting bibs, but I received an email the other day from Ronald McDonald House Charities (who I went through for Wine and Dine 2020 and ended up staying with them when it converted to virtual) stating that the rules have significantly changed for charities. They said:
Moving forward, charity organizations MUST purchase a significant number of entries into THREE major races during the season in order to participate at all. Previously, Team RMHC has purchased entries into just one major race each season - most recently the Wine & Dine Race Weekend. Given this expanded requirement and after thoughtful consideration, our RMHC chapter has concluded that we cannot commit the resources necessary to successfully support THREE separate race weekends.
Fortunately this year I was able to sign up with a different charity, which got all of the bibs it asked for, for the three upcoming races they were interested in participating in.

I haven't seen this year's list of charities yet, but I wonder how many will be forced out based on these new requirements.

For anyone that's interested (and there probably are / will be several others), here are four charities that seem to be involved with runDisney this season.

https://www.alexslemonade.org/team-lemon/races
(Alex's Lemonade is showing 0 bibs available right now, but I'd contact them, the page may not yet be updated.)

I've never been involved with any of these charities, but they all seem like worthy causes.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately the charity I was going to go through, who has been with Run Disney for 5 years did not get any bibs and they were absolutely shocked. I would still love to do the charity route and contacted some from the earlier post, but if anyone knows of any other charities with spots, could you please DM me?

Same, if anybody hears anything. I contacted a few by email at the beginning of July but some never replied

Rather than DM, I'll post for anyone else that may want to run for charity that needs a name - Kellsie's Hope has bibs. They support childhood cancer research and also a nursing scholarship. Their website wasn't updated as of yesterday. They are a small charity, that seems to be basically family run, and are celebrating their 10th year this year.

I just saw this updated post on the American Cancer Society’s fundraising page:

Hello! Registration for this event has not opened yet. Team DetermiNation WILL have bibs for the 2021-22 race season. We are very fortunate to be amongst the charities whose bib requests were officially confirmed on 7/10. Please keep in mind runDisney is not permitting any charity to sign up runners until a contract is signed (all charities are still waiting on contracts) and we will be honoring this rule. Please email jenna.leinwohl@cancer.org to be added to our email list (please let us know which race weekend and distance you're interested in) and you will receive an email when our registration opens. Thank you for your patience. In the meantime, please explore this website and our FAQ section for more information.

Does this mean we likely won't be able to sign up for a charity bib before general registration Tuesday? I was hoping to sign my son up via American cancer society since he was excited about fundraising for a good cause and that would make the race all the more meaningful for him. But I'm afraid those registrations might fill up before we have a chance to register if there is more demand from those who don't get a spot on Tuesday. And then do I still try to get a spot for him on Tuesday if charity registration hasn't opened by then?

It's so stressful, I've been watching my email and refreshing the charity page all day today hoping it would open up. We both managed to get through and registered for 2020 and it's too bad they didn't give any option to defer to this year. He's been working so hard with PT and adaptive PE at school (he's got motor delays) to do this race and I don't want to disappoint him. I emailed runDisney to see if they would make any kind of exception for him since he had a spot in last years canceled race and got a canned "we get a lot of requests and can't help you. Be sure to login right at 10 am Tuesday. "

I would contact the charity directly to see what they are doing. My charity said it would be available before general registration, but I don't know if that's just how they're planning to do it or if it's something actually available to all charities. Meaning, I don't know if they're just taking information and 'reserving' the spot to sign up later or if they will have the actual ability to sign up with Disney.

I would strongly suggest emailing Jenna at the email address she provided (or the contact for any other charity you're considering), and asking her how many bibs she's expecting and where you and/or your son would fall on the waiting list. I'm sure they would be more than happy to be helpful and let you know if there's anything you can do. If one charity doesn't work out, check the next. Good luck!

Is there a full list of charities somewhere I can't find anything on the RD website?

Thanks so much! I emailed her but got an auto reply that she's getting a high volume of requests and there may be a delay in response:-(

I guess all I can do is try my best for each option and hope it works out!
