News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

They also now require POT from a "USATF certified course." I believe they previously had a more generic "certified course" language (not specifically USATF). Don't know what this means for international folks.

I believe that was the case before (USATF course), and it was never enforced. (link)

They've either reduced capacity or are preparing to have some very large last few corrals.

The virtual options have me very concerned about that as well. Seems like the current plan might be to fill former race capacity split across the two platforms. I hope the virtual is just to make money off selling medals.

There does appear to be a time gap between last acceptable race date (July 30th, 2021) and last chance to edit race registration POT (August 17, 2021). I believe that is new as in the past it was usually just the same date (a Tuesday if memory serves me correct).

No more day of race pick-up specifically called out. This used to be an unadvertised emergency situation thing, but now they're specifically saying it won't happen.

I wonder if the POT change is just to help people that are faster that haven’t had a chance to run an in person race??

In non-runDisney races (where people don’t start and stop for characters so much), self-seeding based on pace actually helps the flow of running - without weaving around people so much. But Disney is a different animal. 😊

Personally, I would have moved to a 3:00 hr POT instead of a 2:00 hr POT. I think we can expect that the first non-POT corral will be absolutely massive given the trends we were seeing in year to year changes in non-POT corrals.

That's what I'm afraid of. There are a significant number of people who will seed themselves based on getting the maximum amount of time on the course possible. I just want the chance to be placed properly.

I agree that that’s very likely to happen.

Yeah, I think everyone is wise to the “enter the lowest time not requiring POT” method. They’re just going to end up splitting over half the field pretty much at random. That’s a very bad idea.

Self-seeding in our local races is a hot mess, so I can only imagine how it will be at a Disney race. I am just so excited Wine and Dine is in person and I already have reservations and it will hopefully be my first postpartum half!

So pumped with the announcement! I did the half marathon in January 2020 for my first Disney run. I had a blast. After I got done my goal was to do the Dopey in 2021. Well we all know how that went. So now going to try to do the Dopey in 2022!! Time to increase the training load!
