Newest "Moms to Be" Thread

Last pregnancy (when I went natural), I refused to get checked until I couldn't take it anymore. I was so afraid that she was going to tell me I had only dilated another cm or two.:lmao: Thank goodness I was almost nine, or believe me, I would have been begging for the epidural!!!:thumbsup2

As far as mattresses go, my mom got DS#1's from Babies R Us. Worked fine. For DS#2, we bought it at Burlington Coat Factory for cheaper. Worked fine too. I think with babies, the firmer the better. Pretty much, though, we just went with something that wasn't the cheapest and wasn't the most expensive.;)

That is exactly what we did at Baby R Us too. The only thing the salesperson suggested to me was make sure it had vent buttons. You know the little holes that let the air escape because of kids bouncing on them would make seem pop.

Okay Mom's who have already had children...how long were your prior labors?
My water broke at 9am and I delivered DS at 8:35pm... 11 1/2 hours, does this usually shorten with each child???

does anyone have any favorite sibling books or new baby books? we have been checking some out from the library as we go along. the only one we have that we really like is "you're all my favorites". last library trip we checked out "martha in the middle" and it is super cute. just checking in w/ y'all to see if there are some other titles i should be requesting!!

I did tell you guys that I'm a children's librarian right? I'll work on a list for you, but you should definitely talk to your librarians. We all have some kind of list of those books laying around!

I plan on getting the epi, and I do like my Dr. I've been with her since I was 16! But I like everyone in her practice, so I'm cool with whoever I end up with. It would be weird to have someoen else deliver me after all these years tho. Especially since my mom made me pick her because she has small hands! lol :rotfl2:

So anyone excited for Lost tonight?

Add me into the group who want an epidural! I have a very low pain threshold and I just don't think I could do a natural birth. But more power to those who can...my hats off to you ladies!

Okay, here's a list:

I’m a Big Brother/Sister by Joanna Cole—very simple, but great since there not gender neutral.

New Baby Series by Annie Kubler (Waiting for Baby, My New Baby, etc) again simple but I like them for covering the different periods of time.

I’m Going to be a Big Brother/Sister by Brenda Bercun

When the New Baby Comes home by Heidi Murkoff Another series…

What Baby Needs by William Sears…it’s Sears, need I say more? There’s more too Baby on the way by Martha Sears…

How to be a Baby, by Me the Big Sister by Sally Lloyd-Jones This one’s good for older siblings 5 and up or so…

Sarah - THANK YOU!! I am going to hop on the library website and put in some requests!! I appreciate your suggestions.

For those of you moving to "big boy/girl" beds...I got a tip that worked well for us...a lady in my book club bought swim noodle (flower shaped to not roll) and put one on each side of the bed btwn the mattress and sheet - her son never rolled out of bed.

I went home, took the bed rail off DD's bed (she was 3) and put in a regular noodle - she never ever fell out of bed! This was a great tip for me for at home, and especially for travelling b/c swim noodles take up a lot less room in the minivan!!

I am, for the record, not going all natural ... iv drugs are fine w/ me! I tried an epi w/ DD1 and it actually FELL OUT of my back so I just figured, well, I delivered THAT one w/ no epidural and it took almost 30 hours and a vaccuum ... can it get any worse? Annabel only took 6 hours from when I woke up hubby to holding her in my arms ;)

IV Meds.
I've read about that, but is it really that simple.. just an IV?
Really? Truly?
Why do people get things like an epidural, then?! :confused3

You're welcome. If you need anything else, just let me know, anytime! (I have big boy/girl bed books too!) lol

Thank you harelyquinn for the list of books. I am going to see if my library has any or if I can request one of the books from another area library.

I can't be of too much help on mattresses, we bought a middle of the road price-wise mattress. It is a firm mattress but I read somewhere that they shouldn't be too cushy for babies. Although older kids don't like them as much apparently!

If either of you need more, let me know. That was just the tip of the iceburg!

I have a question for everybody. Who LOVES and I mean LOVES their doctor so much, that you would schedule induction just so they would deliver you?
I LOVE my dr. and Im MORE then willing to be induced so she delivers me. I have been induced twice before, and it was nice being able to plan around the births.
We just got back from the pediatrician's office. ds11 has strep. He can't go back to school until next week. Dh is going to stay with him the next 2 days so I can go back to work. This has NOT been a good week for us!
Ugh. Poor kid!
So who is getting epidurals????? Sign me up!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ann
Most likely! I am going to try to go natural as long as possible... but chances are with baby B being breech.. they will have to do a breech extraction on her, and my doc said that can be... uncomfortable!:faint:

Yup. My mom ordered mine from Walmart.. Its a Sealy of some sort.

I was induced with both of my other two.. My first was 8 hours from the onset of pitocin to baby.. My second was 9 hours.

Different people have different pain thresholds.. I had stadol with my first. 3 rounds of the stuff... and by the time they gave me the third shot, I was SCREAMING for my epi. It works less and less with each shot.

When I had Mikalah, I had my epi as soon as the would give it to me. My parents were bringing my son to the hospital, and I didnt want him to see me in so much pain. It would have been to scary for him. Plus it hurt like a mo-fo. :lmao:

DS#1 - they broke my water at 5:30ish PM. At 11PM, my midwife told me to take a sleeping pill (which I didn't) because it would be all night, so I asked for an epidural. Since she didn't check me again before they put it in, I was fully dilated when I got it and it took me 3 hours to push him out.

DS#2 - they broke my water at 10:30 AM. I started getting regular contractions around 2 and had him around 6.

DD was completely different. My water broke early and I was in the hospital for four days before they finally induced my labor (due to losing too much fluid). I believe they started pitocin at noon...they made me get the epidural (in case of emergency c-section, I guess)and my crazy doctor actually gave me an episiotomy for a 4lb 2oz baby! I'll never know what he was thinking....never needed it for my 8lb+ babies....Anyway, had her at 7:59. Funny how she's the only time I remember.

Ohh.. so IV meds aren't as strong?
Gotcha.
Epi it is! :rotfl:

But we are on track for a vag. delivery! She also told me that as long as the babies and I are all doing well... I dont have to deliver in the OR!!! I can deliver in the reg. room, and then Alex can be there if he wants!!
