"Newest" Moms Hangout... take 2!

lots of tummy and fussy issues going on here. I'm thinking it is due to the Target formula we switched to after the Similac recall. The past 3 weeks or so have been difficult. Carys has been constipated and very fussy. Not herself at all. I'm thinking of going back to the Similac and doing the ready to feed but does that make me a bad mom? I don't want to support a company that had a beetle in their formula! But I know that formula worked for her. I'm mad. Mad at Similac for this happening. Mad at Target for saying that their formula is comparable to the Similac Sensitive when the ingredients aren't the same. I'm sorry. I'm having a rough time. I'm stressed out enough with being a mom as it is and the feeding thing in general freaks me out. (when to feed solids, how much, when to introduce new foods, etc) and now this. I know in the grand scheme of things that this isn't a huge deal, but it is to me. I don't like to see her in pain and I shouldn't have to work so hard to get her to poop. She isn't sleeping well because she's constipated, she gets burps stuck in her and cries and cries until I pick her up to burp her, and either it's a total coincidence or it is the Target formula. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone still on Similac or going back to it?

by the way... we had the striped blanket in the hospital!

I just looked at baby pictures and my hospital uses the blankets with the little feet. :)

Annabelle had the same problems on Target formula so constipated and fussy all the time. We switched back to the Similac Sensitive already and she is back to herself. I dont think your being a bad mom by switching back your doing what you need to do for the health of your daughter, in my book thats a great mom.

That's really reassuring!!! Thank you for saying that :goodvibes

We stayed with Similac. We went with RTF until they had a supply of the powder at our local stores. Now we are using both until we run out of RTF.

For those that use Similac Advance, Sam's has the powder for $59 for 6 cans. That works out to two or three dollars less per can than other local stores.

Has anyone had any good experiences with store brand formula? We are trying to save up money for a down-payment on a house and we are spending about $35 a week for Enfamil for Landon. I always sort of figured it was bad enough that he wasn't getting breastmilk, so at least he could have good formula, but it is so expensive and I wonder if it would really make that much difference. Definitely not the Target brand, though. Maybe BJs.

You are not a bad mommy! Switch back!

We had the striped blankets and ones with the feet!

Finally got halloween figured out. Lily is going to be a lamb, I have an Alice costume that will become Little Bo Peep and DH is going to be a wolf. :goodvibes

We use the Walmart brand with Elliott. It is only $12 a can, so it is a HUGE savings over the Enfamil. It takes a little more to shake it up, because it isn't as fine as the Emfamil, but we have no problems with it!

And, shameless mom here! If you feel so inclined, please vote for Elliott in Parents Magazine Kid of the Week contest!! Thanks!

We have always used the RTF formula, Natalie didn't like the powder. I think it had something to do with our water here.

She grew another 1/4 inch since her check up last month. :thumbsup2

Hope everyone is having a wonderful fall.

Hello everyone!!:flower3:
I haven't been on in sooo long with buying a house, moving, logan, and DH started dialysis a couple weeks ago we've been going to the hospital every morning at 7 and we're there intill about 12 we're in the middle of training since he's going to be doing it at home with us doing everything more like me but he helps with some things. It's really really hard to see him go through something like this :sad1:

But on a happy note we've decided to start trying again for another baby since with his reno failure theres a chance that we wont be able to have another one so that we can be able to have 2 kids. I really excited I'm really hoping for a little girl this time!! Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this wonderful fall weather!! :flower3:

You are going through so much right now. I think it is so exciting that you are going to be trying again!! :thumbsup2 How cool at the thought of a sibling for your little one. I hope that your hubby is feeling better :goodvibes

Daniel is 4 weeks old today. My parents left yesterday, and today is our first day, just the 2 of us, while DD is at school and DH is at work. So far it's been going great. I'm just finishing up mu lunch, while Daniel is napping and I'm about to go and nap as well. Daniel has continued to do great with BF. We have had some latch issues on the left side, but once he's re latched on the pain goes away. He's sleeping typically 4-5 hours at night, for which I'm eternally thankful. I'm tired, but not so exhausted that I wonder how I could even function. Honestly life with Daniel has been really easy so far. I'm still not really comfortable with NIP, but that' more I like to use my nursing pillow and when I'm out and I have no pillow it's hard to support his body at the right level and my breast. I'm hoping to figure out nursing in the Ring sling and have that as an option while I'm out. Right now I try and time it so that I nurse just before we go out, or make sure I take my nursing pillow in the car with me. I've also heard about using the diaper bag as a pillow while you are out. Hopefully with more experience and once Daniel has more head control it will be less challenging. Well I'm off to take my nap, before Daniel wakes up again and wants to nurse.

PirateKate might consider hitting the warehouse clubs. Our local Sams has Similac for two dollars less than you are paying for WalMart brand.

Wow, your Sam's Club has a good deal! I have NEVER seen formula that cheap at ours. As far as for what I save on formula, the 24 ounce can of Similar at my Walmart is just shy of $25. The Walmart brand of formula, same size, is just under $12.

Hey all, Dylan & Katie had their 15 month visit today. Poor kids remembered the doc office & started freaking out when we started to get them undressed for weights & measurements. Didn't help that we had to wake them up to take 'em, so they were kinda tired & just not feeling like it.

So Dylan weighed 26 lbs 1 oz (about 75%) & was measured at 31" tall (about 50%.) Katie weighed 23 lbs 5 oz (about 50%) & was measured at 31 1/2" (75-90%)

Not sure how accurrate the height measurements are, as I said they were freaking out -- the first time they measured Katie as being shorter than Dylan, & she's pretty obviously taller than him, perhaps by more than 1/2" -- so they mighta made Dylan a bit taller than he really is. :) He may be closer to 30 1/2" -- eh whatever, they are both doing pretty darn awesome. :lovestruc:lovestruc

We went out for some lunch afterwards, ease up the trauma a bit. And both are now napping.

ETA: I wanted to add a link to a pic of them that my little bro posted;

That was at the end of August, when we went to the shore.

Our Sams just got the cheap 6-pack of Similac cans in the last week or two. Prior to that, they only had teh cases of RTF (for a really good price, but I hate RTF). These are both to replace teh extra big tubs that they had prior to the recall.

Speaking of the recall, how long does it take to kill some beetles???

Ya my plate is pretty full and my dad had the nerve to yell at me for not calling his wife to personally thank her for sending Logan a couple of outfits I thanked him and told him to tell her. But that wasn't good enough for her or him. Me and her don't see eye to eye she's very rude to everyone in my family and while I was pregnant with Logan she yelled at me for going to see my dad in the hospital and pushed me!! I got soo mad I left and didn't talk to my dad for a few monthes because he said it was all my fault  Ughh sometimes people just don't understand that its not the first thing on my mind I have bigger problems to worry about not to mention a baby and a sick husband!! We are very excited about trying again I really hope its a girl this time :cloud9: To be honest even with everything going on and all the stress and drama I really couldn't be happier in life! Ya I think it's great that Logan's going to have a sibling me and one of my sisters are 2yrs apart so its nice to have them close in age. Thank you again! :flower3:

Sorry had to vent!!

Thanks for posting this.. You can check the stock of your store online.

Ours has no Similac at the moment, but hopefully they'll get it in soon.

I just bought 8 cans of the Similac PM 60/40 from diapers.com but since it's lowered mineral intake he can't stay on it forever. :( Hopefully they have an answer soon for his potassium and we can switch back to a regular formula.

Good news is that since the 60/40 is milk-based we know he doesn't need the stinky soy (the nursery nurse put Owen on soy when we told them Lucas needed it... but all Owen was doing was vomiting, which my OB told me was probably due to the massive amounts of fluid he swallowed during delivery especially since I had polyhydramnios with him)...

Anywho, the point of my rambling is that you can check for Similac availability online.

... I might check the Sams in Pittsburgh, since we'll be there next week.

sbell, did you use formula check? Any thoughts on if they'd let you use more than 1? :confused3

*eta* alright, Pittsburgh (online) is only showing that they have the soy. That is totally bizarre to me.

If you get a chance sbell, will you check and see if the website shows that your store has the regular Similac?

The website shows that are local Sma's has the Soy, but not the regular Advance. I assume that it is incorrect, but I guess that it's possible that they've sold out.

We didn't use formula checks, but on another forum someone stated that Sams did accept them.

I think the website is messed up. We went Saturday and they had the regular Advance in the Ready to Feed Quarts and the Sensitive w/ the orange label in the little cans but neither are listed online. :confused3

We're headed to Pittsburgh Thursday to meet with specialists at the Children's Hospital for Owen...

I bought 8 cans of the 60/40 low-mineral stuff from diapers.com last week so we're good for a month. Then I'm not sure what will happen. Back to a full mineral formula with regular blood checks or if I'll need to order more of the 60/40. :confused3

Thanks for checking, though.
