"Newest" Moms Hangout... take 2!

Our pediatrician wasn't worried either. I had to take Owen for a sick call yesterday and while he wasn't rude, he wasn't concerned. Apparently only like .02% of containers were actually contaminated AND it's a beetle that other countries eat so there will be no physical harm to baby. The concern is that it could upset their tummies and they'll refuse to eat (exactly like Lucas refusing to eat in the hospital because he had the lactose sensitivity)...

Owen has eaten 2 Sams Club tubs of the recalled Soy and I'm not concerned.

He was more concerned with Owen's lack of weight gain. :headache: Apparently an 11lb 6oz 4 week old is not acceptable :rotfl: (7oz weight gain in 4 weeks is apparently not sufficient)
While I did buy two cases of RTF at Sam's during lunch, I kind of agree with your doctor.

We've also gone through quite a few tubs of formula that are likely on the recall with no ill effects. Also, how many times have we all used this phrase: "What do you have in your mouth?"

Frankly, I'd be a little shocked if the princess hasn't consumed a bug at this point.

IIRC in newborns & really young babies they are looking for 1/2 oz - 1 oz of weight gain per day -- so approx 4-8oz of weight gain per week. So by that measure, Owen would be a little on the low side for weight gain. But, since you make some darn big babies they might cut the poor kid a little slack. :goodvibes

Maybe he just hasn't yet hit the line on the growth curve he wants to follow. But I can see where your ped would be concerned. His birth weight prob put him up near 95% & now he's dropping in the percentiles. Don't think I'd be too concerned yet.

Is it bad if I'm still gaining at that rate?

Exactly- they told me they like to see 1/2lb a week. BUT since Owen was 10lbs4oz at discharge (down from 10lbs15oz at birth) they aren't terribly concerned. He has his well-baby the 8th and they said they'll reassess at that point. I've upped his feedings from 4oz to 5oz... so far so good. We might move to 6oz next week.

We have to go have an ultrasound of his head done Monday. Anyone here go through one of those? They are concerned that his soft spot is too large. :( I haven't google'd, too afraid.

RE: Similac...we don't use it, but I agree with whomever said to get the store brand of the formula. Elliott is on the Parent's Choice from Walmart that is like Enfamil, and has no issues going back and forth between the Parent's Choice and Enfamil (my SIL's friend works for a pediatrican, and gave us a ton of the Enfamil sticks that we keep in the diaper bag).

Sooooo....we are moved into our new house!! It was a totally stressful last week! The closings of the old house and the new house kept getting moved, because the appraisal of the old house took forever to be done. But, it is all over now, and we are slowly getting settled in the new house! And moving into a ranch couldn't come soon enough, since Sunday morning Elliott started pulling himself up with one of those push walkers, and started walking with it!!

Congratulations on the new house and Elliott pulling up and walking! Seven months seems really early. He must be advanced. It is so nice once they are more mobile. I can't wait til Landon can move around more and keep up with his brother.

Ugh.. My babies are SICK! I have seen more snot today then I ever thought possible. GAG.

Mine are both sick too. Just colds, but it is so sad. Especially Landon, since he has a hard time drinking his bottle with his nose all runny. I hope your babies get better soon.

Carys had her first bout of constipation yesterday and it was horrible. I felt so bad for her and it was so painful. for both of us! :lmao: I had to help her out. if you know what I mean.... and boy did I feel like such a mom. I didn't even hesitate. It just felt like what I had to do because I just wanted to make her feel better. But it must have been the bananas. Darn binding foods.

We're using the Target formula, the one that is comparable to the Similac Sensitive and it is making her burp like crazy! Anyone else experiencing that?

Hope everyone is doing good! Still trying to get the house in order, but it is coming together, slowly but surely!!

New pic of Elliott from last night, before Monday Night Football...

He can do the touchdown sign now, too. Looks so cute when he does it! Only problem is, he does it every time we cheer for something!!

Been there, done that, burned the t-shirt.

Sarah was having wicked contipation that was making her (and us) miserable. Doc told us to add miralax to her formula once a day and the problem is solved.

Yay poopie!

Natalie had that problem as well. It did help to give her some water during the day. We have not tried the Miralax trick.

The weather here has been soooo nice. It seems like we spend the majority of the day outside. I think she would like it if we lived in a tent.:lmao:

Hi Ladies,

I'm Joanne and we just added Daniel to our family on Sept 16th. He was 10 lbs 2 oz and thankfully a c-section baby. I'm doing great and Daniel is doing pretty good. He had some issues with jaundice from blood type incompatibility, but is looking better everyday. Sadly breastfeeding went from great to almost gone once we supplemented him in the hospital. So I'm now exclusively pumping and bottle feeding breast milk. I've been able to provide enough that I'm no longer supplementing with formula. Kind of wish I had pushed to not supplement, but with the jaundice and high it go so quickly the Dr felt it was needed. I still occasionally offer the breast, but he has not wanted to latch. I'm okay with this, as he is still getting the benefits of breast milk. I had said I was going to try and breastfeed and see what happened. I also have my DD Jessica who just turned 11 last week. She's been a big help and doing well with no longer being an only child.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome Joanne! Daniel is adorable. :) My "babies" are officially toddlers at near 15 months old (almost 13 mo. adjusted age.)

I exclusively pumped (EP'd) for my ODS (also a Dan!) for almost 2 years, he was born 3 months premature & had pretty severe feeding issues. Since these 2 were also preemie, I started out EP'ing, but got my DS nursing between 4-5 months (2-3 mo adjusted) -- so if nursing is what you want, I don't think it's too late. I'd suggest finding an LC to help you get him nursing. My daughter never did take to nursing. By the time I had the headspace to try to get her nursing, she had a decided bottle preference, so if nursing is what you want, don't wait too long to try to get there :)

Ditto this. Don't give up on nursing. Just because the baby doesn't naturally do everything in the beginning doesn't mean things won't change in the weeks to come. I had a lot of issues in the beginning and contimplated EPing, but kept at it and I found it so much better. To each their own though. I do know people who happily EPed. You just do what you gotta do. Whatever happens though, you're doing awesome!

Welcome!

Lily is officially walking. She's not cruising around, but she will take 5 or 6 steps before deciding that crawling is still faster. She is also determined to ride our cats. :lmao: Luckily our boys are awesome with her and just move when they need to.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

I had almost given up on tying to get Daniel back on the breast, but decided this morning to offer it to him and see what he thought. Well he latched onto the nipple shield and nursed great. He's now nursed twice and is content. I will eventually try to get him off the nipple shield, but he is at least back on the breast. I admit that I love the cuddle time that nursing gives me.

I forgot to mention, Katie & Dylan are also walking. Popping up to their feet unaided as well (instead of needing to pull up on something.) Last weekend we went to BRU & bought 2 metal play yard fences & put them together, so that now we have a giant babypen in the living room. It's funny, it looks like we all set to have steel cage death match -- with babies. :rotfl:

They were just too hard to contain anymore -- and we suck at babyproofing.....:confused3 Eventually when it will no longer contain them, I figure it can be re-deployed around the Christmas tree! :rotfl2: And of course when it's totally beyond use, I should be able to recoup some of the cost selling 'em on CL.

Not the burping but we did figure out that it was making her constipated so we will just stick with Similac for a little while to get her regular and then maybe try Good Start.

DD just started fruits a little over two weeks ago and is liking almost everything... just not the applesauce. She even liked the prunes.

Also I finally found a costume I LOVE for her and when it gets here I will take pictures. Its a pink caterpillar. :lovestruc

We went to the State Fair two weeks ago. The day started out really HOT but got cloudy (looking like rain) and windy as we were leaving. We still had a good time.

Finally have Halloween figured here!! ALex, my oldest.. Is going as Darth Vader.. Kaylee, My 5yo.. Is going to be a punk rocker princess.. I am making her a tutu out of black and hot pink tulle.. It is taking me forever, but so far I have used about 20 yards of tulle!! Jasmine will be Sleeping Beauty.. Its a leftover costume from Kaylee.. and Vinny is going to be a Lego! We are just making it out of a box. My sis in law is going to be some goth chick.. Should be fun!!
