Okay - I have to ask....
Why would someone take a newborn baby to a Cardinal ballgame on the hottest day of the summer? We went ot the game last night and sitting one row in front of us was a family with a newborn. It was 104 degrees in the stadium!!!! :sunny: :scared:
The baby was dressed in only a diaper, screaming and crying, and sweating profusely. EVERYONE sitting around them was horrified! I couldn't watch the game. I just don't understand!!!! St. Louis was under a severe heat WARNING yesterday!
After the sun went down it got dramatically cooler. Wouldn't you be worried the baby would catch a chill? That baby couldn't have been 2 weeks old! :sad2:

Because people are crazy - I dont get it either.

I happened to be out on the beach this weekend, not a cloud in the sky, and there was a baby as fair as can be running around naked. I hope she was slathered in sunscreen that I couldnt see but for some reason I dont think she was.

Call me extreme- but that sort of stuff borders abuse- neglect.

From what I heard babies cant regulate their body temps- THat must ve been a really important ball game for them.

On the other hand I think some people with more than one child - think that the older kids shouldnt miss out b/c of a new born.

They didn't have any other children with them....and they drank 10 beers together while they sat through the game! I felt like leaning down and asking if they would give me their address and baby. I'd have driven it home for them! :confused3

I was at a cubs game last year with my then 2 year old (who loves baseball, good girl) and there was a Mom in the bathroom with her little one (about 3 months) The poor thing was crying and just clothed in a onesie. She was a first time mom. I was changing Ava and I struck up a conversation and said, it may be the heat, would you like me to walk with you to first aid where its air conditioned? she did and off we went.

This mom was trying to fix the problem and get the baby happy again. But it sounds like you had someone who did not care in front of you, Poor baby.

10 beers between them? Who drove home?

And the game went into extra innings.

I do not understand some people!!! About 2 years ago we were at a Braves game. great seats 3 rooms up from dugout!! could "SEE" the players' faces when they came in. There was a little babay right behind me. The baby was so small that it did not have good "head control", was in a front carrier, was NOT happy and wait. . .did I mention that my hubby was on EVERY sports network because he CAUGHT!!! a "fly" bat!!!!! It bruised his hand and arm because it was coming so hard so there is no telling what it would have done to that baby!!!!!! Parents sat there for the rest of the game!!!

So many people just have no commen since about them at all... i agree boarder line child abuse to make a baby that small who isn't capable of sweating there for just retaining all that heat... prolly didn't have a wet diaper the whole night... so so sad :(

A newborn is too young for a ball game. We started taking our kids to Yankee games when they were able to sit up and hold their own bottles.

I agree somewhat, but it depends on where you're sitting.

Disney is another story. The point I am making is that St. Louis is under an extreme heat wave. It was a crowded, screaming mob at the stadium. This poor baby had no chance. I can't seem to get it off of my mind. :confused3

You just wonder sometimes where their heads are? I could make another statement about people like that, being an adoptive Mom but I will keep it to myself!! :rolleyes2

MAYMOM,HOW IS DISNEY DIFFERENT ?:confused3 FLORIDA IS VERY HOT ,DISNEY IS CROWED .GRANTED YOU DONT HAVE THE DRUNKS,BUT YOU DO HAVE GERMS.

pweyl36 - you may have a point, but I don't want to start a war over babies at Disney. I know that opens a can of worms around here. I have worms of my own to worry about - Have you read my "crying it out" posts? :rotfl2:

I do agree with you that ANY place where the temperature is WAY over 90 degrees is not an ideal place for a newborn. :sad2: :hyper2:

MayMom...I get what your saying...my nephew and his wife have been taking their son who's now 2 to Cards games since he was a baby...I don't get it!

Really, though...my question is where in southern Illinois are you? We could be neighbors...we live in Herrin, near SIU.

It's called being selfish people. They put their own wants and needs before those of the baby. I see it SOO much now a'days. When DH and I were dating we decided that when we decided to have a baby it would when we would be ready to commite to it 100% Yes we missed a lot of ball games and concerts and vacations, but we had made that commitment and never regreted it. Refering back to May Mom's post my DH told me way before kids that he did not belive in CIO and wanted to make sure we were ready to make that commitment BEFORE we had that child. NOW I am not saying that CIO parents are selfish my post on there made it clear that you have to use what works for you family. The point is children require sacrifice. I agree that those parents were certainly negligent if not abusive in action. I woulder if alerting a police or a game official would had had any effect. I have alerted people to small children left alone in cars.

Too funny! I head up to WF from time to time just to eat at Mike's...love the rootbeer! I've notice more and more DISsers from our area...Carbondale, Harrisburg, O'Fallon. Who knows we might have enough to warrant a DIS meet in the area.

Have a magical day!

I understand people might get stuck without a babysitter, but why would you want to take a kid who isn't old enough to appreciate the game? Especially one who's crying? How could you enjoy it? How could you torture everyone around you like that? Not to mention the baby! Especially when it costs so much for a ticket now. Yikes!

I don't see why Disney would be another story. When we were at AK it was 95 degrees and humid, so the heat index had to have been over 100 degrees. There was a couple with a newborn baby that was just red from the heat. The baby was in a diaper and still had it's umbillical cord stump, so couldn't have been more then a week or two old. Babies at that age can't regulate their own body temp very well. It is just plain STUPID to take a newborn out in extreme weather no matter where it is!
