Newbies to Disneyland and in June?

Okay, we've been to WDW twice and we thought it might be interesting to go to DL and catch some of the other sights, like Sea World, Universal Studios, and Beverly Hills. Couple of questions though.

First - DH and I are "Pooh Bear" sized. This isn't a problem at all at WDW and we've been able to ride everything. I believe the orange thing at DCA has a weight limit, but other than that, will size be a problem?

Second - We're talking about coming out the second week in June. Weather in Florida is muggy and hot. How about So. CA?

Third - Crowds would be a nightmare with DH. He's only happy if he can be the only person there, so we limit his exposure otherwise it's miserable for all. What do you think about how packed it may/may not be?

Fourth - Package specials seem to be run a lot at WDW. What about DL? I've looked several times over the years, but haven't really seen too much. Should I just get a AAA package? (We'd rather stay at a DL property. We consider that imperative at WDW.)

Thanks so much for your help!

I'll answer what I can...

If you are concerned about crowds, June may not be the best choice. It is summer, which is a busy time at DL. A lot of locals go to DL, so if school is out it is crowded.

It is warm in June, after all it is summer, but it is not as uncomfortable as WDW in June.

I wouldn't count on any great package specials as summer is peak season at DL and they don't have any trouble getting the masses there. AAA may be the way to go.

You shouldnt have any size related problems at Disneyland. With the exception of Orange stinger, as you mentioned.

June will probably be pretty busy, as you'll be dealing with summer vacation crowds. If you can go in early May, you'll probably find things less crowded. Although early June is probably better then early July. Check this site http://www.scottware.com.au/theme/feature/crowds.htm for an idea of how attendance looks from month to month.

The weather will be warm to hot, but not nearly as humid and muggy as FL. I advise checking weather.com. They have a listing for daily average temps for each month of the year. ( the above linked site has weather info as well).

You'll find its not as important as at WDW. There are many local hotels that are just as close, if not closer then the disney properties. And, they are much more affordable! Just be careful booking an offsite hotel. Sometimes they'll say "one block" or "across the street". But that is not always truthful. It might be across the street, but not across from the gates. Ask the board about hotels. We can usually give you some pro's and con's of hotels you are considering. Tripadvisor.com is also a great place to get info.

We usually book a package. Its easier and is about the same price. AAA, Costco and Disneytravel are all about the same price. Sometimes AAA has a little added perk. Costco includes a (one per res, not per person) $20 gift card and character meal for everyone in the party.

I went in last year in very early June, definitely within the first week. The crowds were really manageable with really low wait times on most rides, except for Space Mountain. The only day there was a problem was the first day we were there (a Wednesday) because a lot of school groups were there. Probably like a junior high graduation field trip day. The three remaining days weren't bad at all. The weather in early June in Anaheim suffers from something called June Gloom. The first part of the day can be somewhat gloomy and even damp, but by the middle of afternoon, it clears up and its gorgeous, especially compared to WDW! The humidity is low and it makes touring so much nicer! The evenings get chilly-ish again.

I'm going back again this year and I'm actually reading up on the boards here in preparation for that trip.

Since DL is really more of a locals park, they don't have as many specials as WDW, but you can check some the mousesavers website and see what they have going on. Another thing you might run into, if it bothers you at all, is Grad Nights. DL usually closes pretty early, but DCA is still available until late in the evening. So, if you plan accordingly, you can still have a great time that evening!!

We were there in the beginning of June a few years ago. I packed shorts and summer clothes. We definitely needed something warmer. I had to buy sweats for everyone. Like the previous poster said, they call it "June Gloom". Very overcast and there was a chill in the air.

We didn't think it was very crowded (especially at California Adventure).

We are the typical tourists when we visit Southern California. We always visit Hollywood and get a map of the stars' homes. Last visit we saw Halle Berry outside of her house!!!

We're thinking of a DL trip this June. :)
