We just 250 points at SSR two weeks ago with a December use year... am considering buying maybe a 100 more at another resort.

My hypothetical is this .. if we buy 100 points at Resort B with a different or same use year...

If when my 250 points come for Dec 1 2008, can I bank them and then book all 350 ( 250 have now+100 possible new points at resort B) at resort B at the 11 month window for resort B...

thanks I will hang up and listen now..

I believe you can only use your 100 possible new points to book at 11 month window at resort B. Your 250 SSR points can be used to book at resort B or any DVC resort at the 7 month window.

nope. you can't EVER combine points from different resorts at the 11 month window. it just wouldn't be fair to people paying for BCV points (and BCV annual dues) for SSR owners to have access to the 11 month window at BCV with their cheaper SSR pts just because they added on 25 (or whatever) pts at BCV.

if you add on 100 (say, BCV) pts, you can book those pts (including any banked/borrowed BCV pts) but ONLY those pts at BCV at the 11 month window.

at the 7 month window, you may combine pts from both contracts for use at any DVC resort if there is availability.

this question gets asked a lot, BTW. if you scan through threads on the DVC forums and use the search function (although it unfortunately is often on the fritz), it's a great way to learn a lot about using your DVC membership...

No need to try to take a shot at SSR. Prices of the points are pretty much the same. Don't hate because you didn't get the extra 12 years (or had to pay extra).

I think that the distinction between them is more the dues than the purchase price.

Edit: Many people new to the system ask this type of question thinking they have discovered a loophole. ;)

You should also be aware that if you have different UYs, they will be separate contracts and you cannot automatically combine the points to book a single night, even at the 7 month window.

To illustrate, you have 22 SSR points and the cost per night is 30. You cannot book that 30 point night with some points from your SSR contact and some from your resort B contract, unless you formally transfer them between contracts. You are limited to one transfer per UY, so if you need to combine poitns, make sure you can keep within this limit.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

If you purchase your add-on from Disney, they'll add it to your same member number and it will have the same use year as your SSR. If you buy resale, though, it is possible to have different use years.

While you can't combine points from two resorts at 11 months, you can use banking and borrowing to make a small add-on contract work for an 11-month booking every year. Assuming 250 points at SSR and 100 points at Resort B, you could plan vacations as follows:

Year 1:
Bank 100 Resort B Points
Borrow 125 SSR points
Book a 375 point SSR vacation at 11 months

Year 2:
Bank remaining 125 SSR points
Borrow 100 Resort B Points
Book a 300 point Resort B vacation at 11 months

Year 3:
Book a 375 point SSR vacation at 11 months

Year 4:
Start again at year 1

One note: If your add-on was 125 points instead of 100, you'd have 375 points for each year, instead of only having 300 for the Resort B year.

For any of these years, if you want to try Resort C, book at the home resort at 11 months, then try to change/waitlist at 7 months.
