I'm a WDW and DL veteran but have only been on one cruise in my life back in 1984 and it was not with Disney.

Am just starting to think about taking a cruise with my husband. We have no two kids and live in San Diego.

Want to keep it reasonable as to price, but at same time, want to have a nice room. Most important is for it to be quiet and as little motion as possible.

Any suggestions as to which deck and type of stateroom? I'm finding this info confusing to understand.

Also, I believe we would keep it to a West Coast sailing.

I'd recommend the Passporter book you can buy. I'm researching as well and was pretty lost until I got that.

DCL is a wondeful vacation. We are getting ready to head out on our 12th sailing and I would love to help answer your questions. You can feel free to email me if you want

If you are open to sailing very soon, the Disney West Coast Pixar cruises have some great pricing with Pixar perks. It looks very enticing but I am already set to sail on Fantasy!

Deck and Stateroom.
I would suggest the cheapest option (inside room) for any cruise other than an Alaskan cruise. You will be spending most of your time outside the room! If an Alaskan, get high and balconied.

Theres a couple of factors that go into what you are looking for.
First, typically the closer to the ships center of gravity is the least movment on a ship. A ships center of gravity will change from cruise to cruise and even during a cruise.
Second, how much is reasonable.

Id suggest this block of rooms, Deck 6, rooms 6058-6094, which are both interior and blacony cabins, port side, and 6598-6594 starboard side, both interior and balcony,
Deck 7 7036-7094 both interior and exterior rooms, port side, 7536-7594 starboard side, both interior and exterior,
Deck 2 2042, - 2106 both ocean view and interior, 2542 to 2506 both ocean view and interior.
Those rooms are pretty much in a block close to the center of the ship and shouldnt have much movement. Even with modern electronics and stabilizers, an ship will roll/pitch on the seas, to some extent.
