Newbie-what use year is it right now??

We just bought into the DVC last month after many wonderful trips. However, I am a little confused, Our use year is December, so I assumed that on Dec 1, we'd get our allotment of 2006 points, to use over the course of 12/1/06-11/30/07 or bank. However, I just signed into the website and it says we have December 2005 use year points available, and that we can bank up to 25% by September 30 of this year. Is this correct, or did they make a mistake by giving us an extra years worth of points?

Did you get the $10 off per point when you bought? I just started paperwork on Friday and it is for DEC use year, but I took the $ off per point instead of the 2005 points. If you take the $ off you get 2006 points but not 2005 points. If you have 2005 points, they might let you bank 100% since you just joined last month.

Yes, we also took the $ off per point, that's why I was surprised to see the 2005 points listed online. To complicate it even more, I recently booked a trip for January 2007, and it was the 2005 points they took them out of?? I guess I'll be on the phone with Member services tomorrow morning trying to figure this one out!!

Don't forget that this is your 2005 use year, your 2006 use year does not begin until December of this year. If you have your 2005 points, that's your current year's points.

Generally, if you get current UY points, you can bank 100% of them regardless of banking deadlines. I'd call MS and see if you can do that. Your guide should have told you that, and hopefully MS will let you bank them. Don't take no for an answer -- if you get "no" ask to speak to a supervisor. You shouuld not use 75% of a year's points because the guide made a mistake.

If they'll let you bank 100%, DO IT! If you need to take a trip prior to Dec 1, you can borrow points from next UY. That way you won't lose any points.

This sounds like MS already banked your 2005 points. They could not use 2005 points for a January 2007 stay unless they were already banked.

If they are banked, MS did the right thing. They are supposed to automatically use banked points first, but it's a good idea to review all details of every transaction while you're still on the phone with MS. It's a lot easier to clear up misunderstandings at that point, rather than later.

To answer the question of your thread's title:

For those who have the following Use Year months, they are in UY 2006:
February
March
April
June
August
September

For those who have the following Use Year months, they are currently in their 2005 Use Year.
October
December

DVC does not use January, May, July, or November for use year months.

did you buy though DVC?

then you have 2005 points. DVC always gives this years points. this year is 2005 for a Dec use year.

I would call MS now.

Unless you sell them back to DVC as part of the incentive is was what I was told by my guide when we started paperwork last Friday.

When we bought this year we were given the choice of $ off or 2005 points. I would call your guide or MS and make sure.

Thanks everyone for your input. I spoke to member services today, and they said that they saw NO 2005 points in the system. I asked why they were showing up on the members only website, and she didn't know. She told me to call my guide. I called her, and she said we shouldn't have received points for 2005, just the ones on December 1, 2006 because we got the $10 off per point incentive. She looked into it and said our account shows no 2005 points. Why are they showing on the website then???? Anyone else ever encounter this problem?? How do I know if I truly have points there for 2005 or not? It was my understanding that we wouldn't have any for 2005, that's what we planned our trips for next year based on, but I don't want to lose out on these 2005 ones if they really do exist out there somewhere.

I am in the same boat as you. I just purchased at Saratoga Springs and Dec 2006 is my use year. However when I received my pin in the mail today and logged in it shows I have points for Dec 2005. I also took the $10 off not the extra points.

I am so glad that I found someone in the same boat as us!!! Maybe you could PM me, (I'd PM you , but I can't figure out how to do it), and we can keep track of the answers that they give each of us to see if they are the same.

I took the $ off instead of the points as well so don't call them anymore until I get all my paperwork done and use all the 2005 points before they get it corrected.

Seriously though, it sounds like an error that they will probably straighten out. I guess I will find out soon. I will let you know if I encounter the same situation.
