I'm new to DVC boards and we are looking into buying into DVC. Looking at about 200 points, but not sure of SSR through disney or elsewhere through an agent. I have gained a ton on info from these boards. With regards to the use year. Does it really matter what month your points fall into. What are the advantages and disadvantages to differant months. We are a famialy of 4 with 2 DD's 3 and 5. We will most likely travel in the off peak times, Sept, Oct, Nov, Jan and Feb. We are from Wisconsin and want to get away from the cold of winter here. We can also travel on shorter notice. Any help would be great.

Use Year really only comes into play if you cancel a trip less than 30 days before the scheduled check-in. If you do that, the points have to be used in that use year.

So if you have a February UY and you cancel a March trip a couple of weeks before the trip, you have almost a full year to use those points. On the other hand, if you have a February UY and you cancel a December trip, you only have a few weeks to re-book and use those points.

Since it is likely you will be traveling at different times of the year, it probably doesn't make a lot of difference which month your Use Year is. And remember, there are 37-49 years left in the contracts so even if those are your vacation patterns for the next 15 years, you will still have many years on your contract where you very well might be going during peak times.

Good luck with your decision! :)
