Newbie to renting/trading points

My DH and I are considering either renting or trading some points we don't think we'll be using that expire at the end of the summer.

We have never done this and would appreciate any info on the process, pros and cons, is it better to rent or trade etc.

ANY info will be GREATLY appreciated.

if you transfer just make sure it is enough of your points - you can only transfer once a year these days.

so I would go with renting.

would you be trading your points thru DVC to go on someplace besides DVC - then I would still rent.

TY Spicey Cat for your info. Sounds like renting the points is the way to go.

My DH is very concerned if we do rent the points the possibility of incurring costs if the room is damaged etc. Is there some kind of contract that we can draw up and have the person who's renting the points sign? Does DVC offer a contract?

How does the renting process work? (i.e., how you make the reservation etc.)

Again, the more info we can obtain, we would greatly appreicate.

making the reservation is easy - just call ms and make it - just make it in the other person name.

same as if you doing it for friends or family. nothing is different.

Basically you will be making a reservation in someone elses name when you rent. It is like you become a travel agent. As such, both you and the person you rent to will be taking a few risks. The biggest risks for you will be making sure you get paid in a timely fashion, and protecting yoru points from being lost if the renter decides to back out. You will also have some responsibility should the renter trash the place or not pay for extras, but that's a seperate issue. I suggest going and reading as many threads here about renting as you can first and then come back with specific questions.
