Going on 2/23 and have a few q's:

What are the spa hours? Are there any times that are more likely to book faster (morning / noon / eves)? -- Yes, I have spa fever!

Any way to send digicam pics from the ship? That is, any CF card readers or USB ports? I know I can email at the internet cafe....

If not doing excursions at St. Maarten, do people just take a cab to the shopping areas / beaches, or does DCL arrange for "free time" transportation?

Sorry if I sound naive. 1st cruise and all...:D

Thanks!!

Hi, dee47!

If you'd like to be included in our list of 2/23 cruisers, give us some info as to who is crusing with you and I'll add you to our list. The thread is unofficial check-in for 2/23 Magic. We have what looks like a nice bunch of DIS-ers.

As to spa questions, I'll wait for other posters. I'm more of a laze around in the sun person. I did enjoy the rainforest in the spa, and my friends have had massages.

Also, I'll let computer experts answer that one.

As for St. Maartin--We did the "Under Two Flags" on our first visit. It gives a nice overview of the island and includes a stop at an outdoor marketplace. Second visit, we were with another couple. The four of us hired a taxi to give us a tour. Our driver was a wonderful guy who loved talking about his home island. We also did some shopping. St. Maartin is the best stop for shopping--meaning least expensive.

We plan to meet at the Promenade Lounge after the safety drill to make first contact. Many of us will be wearing lime green ribbons.

Welcome------Karen

The spa is open from 8 to 8. Daytime spa spots on days at sea are the first to book up.

No, you will have no access to any ports or plugs at the Internet Cafe workstations. The only way to send a photo is to upload it from a 3.5 inch floppy disk.

DCL doesn't make arrangements for "free time transportation", but you can take a water shuttle from the dock to the main downtown shopping area. Click here for a map/photo. The water shuttle costs $5 per adult (kids are free) for unlimited trips through 6pm.

Thanks guys! This board is awesome!
Dave, I love your site!

When we got to St. Maarten, we took the water taxi to great Bay Beach....walked around the shops on the first street, and then decided to find a taxi. There were 4 of us, and Mattias drove all of us around the island for 2 1/2 hours with a stop for shopping ( he offered to stop more if we wanted) for a whopping $40. I call that a bargain......if you're willing to take a chance, you can find a bargain. He was very nice, and a safe driver. We enjoyed hearing about the island from him, and he answered all our questions. Enjoy!

About the computers in the Internet Cafe:

I'm not sure you can even access the 3.5 inch floppy drive. There was a person that had problems with the computer she was using and the Internet Cafe Manager had to reach underneath the desk and unlock a cabinet to cycle the power on and off, so they might be totally concealed.

It is possible to send a digital picture from there, but only if you use their attached camera and send it 'live', and I think it involves an extra fee.

To elaborate on Dave's response:

Yes, you can send pictures that are on a floppy. (I sent one back to my co-workers to make them jealous ;) ) However, you need to do this at a time that the internet cafe is staffed. If you want to send a picture, you just ask the internet cafe manager and they can open up the cabinent so you can use your floppy (They may want to virus scan the disk first though).

RickW,

Seeing that we're from the same area of the contry, I'll pick on you :)

How do you get the pic on a floppy if you don't have a laptop with you?? Sounds like I can't plug my camera in directly. Please don't tell me you had your laptop on the ship...
