Can you use your points towards a stay at any non-DVC resorts in WDW (i.e. GF, Poly, CR, WL, etc)? If so, where can I find out how many points are needed for these resorts?

(I am still looking into DVC and I want to get all my ducks lined up in a row before taking the DVC plunge)

Thanks.

Yes, you can use your points for WDW non-DVC resorts, you can stay at all the resorts except for the value resorts...however, it is NOT the best use of your points to stay non-DVC. You can spend less points for a 2bdrm villa that comes with a full kitchen,in room laundry, jacuzzi tub and king bed with room for up to 8 people for LESS than what you'll spend in points for a regular room.

To give you an example:

a regular room at the GF during value season costs: 39pts. per night Sun.-Thurs. and 70pts. per night for a Fri. or Sat. night

A 2bdrm villa at BCV's (picked that one since it's a popular one)during adventure season would cost you: 30pts. per night Sun.-Thurs. and 60pts per night for a Fri. or Sat. night.

OH forgot to add...it doesn't appear the point chart on this sight shows for the non-DVC resorts but if you ask what you're looking for myself or another on this board can look it up for you;)

And WELCOME to the Dis! :)

The reason the points are higher for non-DVC resorts is because it is essentially a trade out from the timeshare into another resort. Each resort must negotiate individually with DVC on that point cost, but since it is Disney, they do put resort catagories together. I guess I would not want to give up my spacious 2 bedroom villa with the in room jacuzzi and laundry and kitchen for a hotel room and have it cost me more points.
