Newbie- Possible 1st time trip in 2017

Hello,
I have never been to Disneyland (Disney World visitor many times over)and I am thinking about going solo to Disneyland in June 2017. Would go towards the end of the month, to celebrate my 60th birthday. This is a bucket list item I wish to cross off I live in Michigan so it would be a longer flight, etc....Where do I start in planning, good hotel ideas, dining, etc...thanks in advance for any info

You mention being a WDW vet, so I would start with HydroGuy's A DLR Guide for WDW Vets. It's a good starting point for getting a sense of the similarities and differences between the two resorts.

I did my first solo trip last year! I'm excited for you, it's so nice. I did miss the spouse and my teenagers, but loved being able to set my own pace.
My only issue was that I realized I'm a slave driver to myself! I felt like I had to make the most of every minute, and pushed too hard, and really tired myself out (and got bad blisters!) I hope you have a nice, relaxed trip!

Definitely do it!!! I think Disneyland as a single traveler would be much more enjoyable. Everything is within walking distance. I went for my first trip to Disneyland in February and couldn't believe how much I loved it.

If you are going in June, keep in mind that June has some Grad nights, and try to avoid them if possible. If you are going towards the end of the month you should be good. I also like to look at the blockout calendar when I'm planning my trip, to see when various passes might be blocked.

We always stay at the Disneyland Hotel to be immersed in the magic. However, many on this forum will tell you that staying in one of the non Disney hotels are just fine. It is said they will save you some money and are an easy walk to the parks. Could be the toughest decision to make! Enjoy planning.
