Newbie needs help & support!

Ok I admit it I am addicted!
WHew! I feel so much better

I began playing VMK with my 7 year old about 2 weeks ago. I have to help him with the typing and spelling. Well, a few days later I had to create my own character because I was totally in love with the game!

I hate to admit it but I am 35 years old! Please tell me there are some other 30 somethings out there playing too!

I am also asking for a bit of guiadance... Being new I don't have much stuff. The stuff I have is the basics of what you can buy. But I want to have some of that cool stuff! I never win cute or boot because I don't have some key things like dresses or crowns. I have tried to trade but no one wants my normal stuff... everyone is looking for rare! Well, how do I trade for rare if I don't have anything good to offer?

waa... I really want a crown! Do they offer them for purchase from time to time?

crowns and all that cool stuff comes out around halloween personally I cant wait because Im some what of a new comer myself but if you need help with anything dont hesitate to give me holler! I'm BattyMcDoom in VMK.

Welcome to VMK and Dis! And yes, there are lots of us that are "not a kid" that have gotten addicted to vmk. I started off to play along with my daughter (now 13), and I play it more then she does.
It does take time to accummulate enough stuff and credit to trade up for the more rare things. And sometimes they do come on sale again. Like the crown and princess dress costumes were from Halloween 2005, and were sold again last Halloween 2006. Watch on the trade board, sometimes people offer their rarer items for trade in exchange for current buyable (shopping spree). Usually when something new comes up for sale and they have gotten short on credits.

Batty & Golden- Thank you for your replies. I am starting to feel better! I am finding myself playing at night after work for like 3 hours after the kids have gone to bed! I was so happy to get the july 4th hat! I feel so important to have that special item! LOL

Golden- I am glad to hear that there is an older crowd out there playing. I play video games with my kids too so vmk is a great addition!

I have a DW trip planned for late August so I am looking forward to the in park quests!

Just keep saving credits and buying the weekend pins. After a while some of them can be worth quite a bit, and although it takes a while it is a great way to get rarer items later.

Well, I'm not in my 30s, but I'm 24. That's still a decade older than the maximum age of VMK's intended audience. And about half the people who post in the VMK forum are my age or older

A WDW vacation will Definately help with getting those special items! Make sure you read the players guide, and get all the info on the inpark quests, inpark purchases before you go. You'll find the player guide in a sticky at the top of this VMK forum.

I am 36 and started playing when the game first came online at the end of May, 2005. My son and daughter joined after they saw me hooked, so I can't even use them as an excuse!

Once you do the in-park quests, you can rev up your trade values. Be sure to use the player's guide here (stickied at the top) to make sure you've printed out everything you'll need to get everything that's available.

Until then, if you can earn enough credits to buy multiples of the weekend specials, you can work up in trades a little at a time.

in my point of view.. You can probably get alot of rare stuff. Around halloween, and other holidays. The key, is probably to save your credits, which is ( Money ). You can earn money by playing some games. Including Pirates, fireworks, jungle cruise, and basically thats it. Otherwise, you can get free credits everyday, once a day, by visiting the NPC'S ( Non Playable Characters ) . Including : Shrunken Ned, Black Heart, The Dragon, The Matterhorn, Esmerelda, and the Gator Waiter. They're scatted around VMK. ( You can find them in the map. ) the map is a icon at the bottom of your screen basically, whenever your logged into VMK. Its the little circly globe thing . I would like to explain more.. But i really am not good at helping with new people. Lol, but you can find some great people around the Dis, and in VMK to help you!

And make sure, to never fall for any scams Alot of people tend to go after new people. So becareful. And have fun!

And by the way, VMK is for all ages so it doesn't matter whether your over the age limit Im 12 and almost out of the age limit lol. And yet i tend to play it ALOT. So dont worry, Alot of adults play VMK.

Rest assured you are not the only adult that plays VMK. While not an accurate indicator of the game in general, this poll that was recently taken will show you the range of posters on the DIS VMK Boards:

You have been given some great advice about how to acquire "rare" items. Save as many credits as you can to buy any specials that appear in the shops. These will come in handy for trading later on. Also you will sometimes find players trading older items in exchange for new items when they are short on credits to do the shopping themselves.

Be sure to play Host Quests, and check out player made quests as these sometimes have some harder to get items as prizes.

I am barely still in my thirties but I am hooked too! It started with my daughter, 13, then my son, 16, and then I just had to have my own character too! It can be a lot of fun! And I have learned more from this board here than by looking up stuff anywhere else online. A lot of nice people here with great tips and willing to help out!!!

I am also one of the older VMK players, in my 20s, and love playing the game. I read that you're interested in a crown and happen to have an extra one that you are welcome to. I have been fortunate to make some very good friends on VMK and many of my first items were gifts from them. I'm surfergirlkelly on VMK also so please look for me and that crown is yours. Buy the special weekend items to get started. It takes a while to get really going but you can do it. Getting good at fireworks can be helpful because if you can hoard your credits you can save enough to get people to give their rare items up for credits.

I played alot of the Pirate game last night! I am starting to get good at it! And I am doubling up on some of the specials such as the bb outfit. Thanks for that idea everone!
