Newbie DVC Booking Question...Guide me

Hi, We are currently in ROFR for 150 points for BCV resale, and I have a question on the usage of points.

In our resale the UY is March, and we get 150 2010 points, then we would get our normal 2011 150 points.

We would like to book a trip for October 2011 at BCV, my DH parents are going and we would need 2 studios, so a total of 214 points. We would be arriving Oct 22, leaving morning of Oct 29.

Now when we call with MS to book it in Nov 2010(11 months out), would the 150 2010 points be used and then we would have to borrow 64 from 2011.

Or would we have to bank the 150 2010 points, and use 64 of the 2011 points when they come available.

I guess my question is really are the points used up at the point the reservation is made or is points used up on the dates of the reservation.

I have been searching the forums and haven't seen anything that truly explains at what point are the points considered used(When you make the reservation vs the dates of the reservation).

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated, the more we can learn the better. We are truly excited to be BCV DVC members.

Points for a March UY are current from March 1 - Feb 28th. Your 2010 points are current from Mar 1, 2010 - Feb 28th 2011 and your 2011 points are current from Mar 1, 2011 - Feb 28 2012.

For an Oct 2011 trip you will need to bank your 2010 points forward to you 2011 UY and then use those plus current 2011 points for the reservation.

Also, your banking deadline for a March UY is Oct 31st so be certain to bank by then which is prior to when you can call for the Oct reservation.

Welcome home Bank your 2010 points, when you call for your ressie all MS looks to see that you will have the points needed at the time of your trip, so because you will be getting your 2011 points in March, MS will know that and you will be able to make your ressie at the 11 month mark. Another question is when in November can i call to make the reservation, can i call on the 1st or do i have to wait until the date of our vacation the 22 so it would equal 11 months out.

The easiest way for me to remember what I can and can not use is to first figure out what UY my travel will take place. You can always book a vacation 11 months out at your home resort (or 7 months out at the others).

Once I know the UY that the trip will happen, then I know that I can use banked points from the previous UY, current UY points, and borrowed points from the following UY.

So, in your case, an Oct 2011 trip, will take place in your March 2011 UY (March 1st, 2011 - February 29th, 2012). You can pay for this trip with banked 2010 points, current 2011 points, and borrowed 2012 points.

When you call in November of 2010 to book, MS will look at your account and book the trip first, looking for the banked 2010 points, then using your 2011 points and if you needed them, borrow from 2012 to complete the reservation.

Some people think that your points have to be usable when you call and that is not how it works. You simply need them to be eligible at the time of travel. Technically, you have all your points now. UY just tells you when they become "current".
