All,
100 points have been offered at my church's auction fundraiser. As my family of 4 and and my 2 parents are planning a trip in late November. I am interested in bidding for the points. My issue is, I am not sure how to relate the points to cash value to determine how far to go if a bidding war breaks out (it all goes to a good cause of course.) We are interested in Wilderness Lodge and I understand you can get a 2 bedroom suite. Our last 2 trips to DW, we stayed in the Ft. Wilderness cabins and loved it. So some particulars:
I see that the week we are looking at requires 278 points for the suite.

Questions:
Do we pay the difference in cash?
Does it include any park tickets?
Are there better values given our limited criteria above.

Any help is much appreciated! Moderators, if there is a better forum for this question, please move.

Thanks All,
Al

Any reservation using those points would need to be made by the donating member and any reservation will be based on availability at the time. In addition, the points will be "attached" to a specific resort and could only be used for reservations at that resort between 11 months and 7 months before arrival. Other resorts may be reserved using those points for dates within 7 months of the arrival date.

The auction should explain any restrictions and details prior to bidding, but this is most likely only for accommodations. Theme Park admission, transportation and dining will not likely be included - but again, those details should be disclosed in advance.

If you purchase the donation, you will likely be limited to the 100 points being offered - although you could add additional nights with a cash reservation. (I would ask the member donating the points to make the cash reservation for you and link the point and cash reservations together.) You could reserve as many nights as the 100 points will get you and the rest using cash. You cannot combine points and cash for a single night however, so I would use the points for weeknights if possible as that will be a better value.

Before bidding I would see what a 2BR at Wilderness Lodge for your dates would cost thru Disney directly and use that as a guide for your bidding.

As for "value", it will depend on what the 100 points bring at the auction. Using the Rent/Trade Board here on the DIS you can pretty easily make a reservation paying $10-$13 per point for the stay. DVCrequest.com (one of our sponors) can also assist.

Good luck! :)

The last time I rented points, they were rented at $12 a point. So, for a 100 point rental that would be $1200. 100 points would not get you a 2BR. If you google DVC point charts, you can see how many points are needed at each resort.

Good luck.
