I am flying into JFK and will be staying on 7th ave near Times Square. I realize the cheapest mode of transportation is to take the Airtrain to the subway system. The shuttle to the jamaica station is $5....then I need subway fare. Is it really only $2 a ride? So, do I need to put $14 on the Metro card for round trip? I'll need to pick up the E line.

If you have any advice, please share. Thank you

You will not have any problems. The Airtrain station at Jamaica has a lot of people in uniform to help you out. The screens are touch screen and not difficult to use. They take cash, credit, and debit cards.

It is $5 for the Airtrain and $2 for the Subway, as you said. So yes, it will be $14 round trip.

Depends on when you're going, I think I heard after June, the fare is supposed to go up to $2.50. Or did they squash that? I'll admit, I haven't kept up with the news lately.

I think they scaled it back to 2.25, but they've gone back and forth and made so many changes that I don't actually know what the final decision was. I also wasn't paying much attention because I won't be living here after June anyways.

The subway really is $2. Even if you need to change trains. $2 to the hotel, $2 back to your airport stop. Not sure about the shuttle thing. We took a cab from the airport.

Put the money on the metro card for the airtrain. Then get a roundtrip ticket on the LIRR from Jaimaca to Penn Station. The ticket will cost you more, but even with local you're in to Penn Station within a half hour or so. To take the subway from Jaimaca to mid-town takes well over an hour.

Plus I would never want to manuever a lot of luggage during the NY subway in rush hour. I've done it, it's not fun.

Pezhead!! Thanks so much! That will save a huge chunk of time...we are only there for one night. We can walk from Penn Station to the hotel.

THANKS!
