I'm worried about this also. I'm NOT missing the SOL. If it were just my family we'd skip dinner the first night, but my in-laws are with us and they've never cruised so I feel badly that they might miss dinner. (and honestly, they'd rather go to dinner)

Maybe they can go to dinner without you? We're on the first seating too but we are going stay until we pass the statue of liberty and the bridge. That's more important to us than catching dinner the first night.

Almost all secretly packed. I've hand-made our FE (this is our first time participating in this) so I hope it's not too big. Hard to tell measurements by pictures. Got all the gifts done too. Kids still don't know we're going!!!

Can anyone explain how the dummy dates for cruises works? I hear if you sign up for your next cruise on board you get a discount? How does that work? Do we pay up front or can we make payments?

You can just choose any random date and book a cruise. All you need is a 10% deposit, and you don't have to put everyone in the room (if you want to make a deposit cheap). If you tell them that you are booking a dummy date, the CM usually knows which one is cheapest so you can book it. I'm planning to book one on each cruise and hopefully do another back to back in 2014. For booking onboard, you get the luxury of a 10% deposit (even when you move it to the more expensive date), 10% off, and an OBC from Disney.

I'm thinking that with all of us "falling apart" folks in the cruise meet group, maybe I should just pack some extra duct tape! If it works for making a good FE, it surely will work for all of us before and after our little medical sagas! We are also on early dining. Waiting with baited breath (sp?) for the first NY cruise to return and tell us what time they passed the Statue of Liberty. I also want to see the mouth of the harbor and all the other boats and lighthouses and buoys, so we may just need to plan an alternative to the MDR for that first night. We'll see. Some of my FE stuff is here in Israel with me and some is waiting in NJ, so I can't get closure on my FE gifts, but at least I have lists - many many lists!!!

maybe if we ask the host or hostess to put your fe in your room if we are not allowed on the deck which they do have privacy on those decks.we will try and
i am sure the hostess will take your gift.i will ask the lobby cs to take it up to you.

I think only on the Dream the Concierge deck is off limit to other guests.

So I have been shopping and packing for this trip for months...I just opened up my suit case to take inventory and all I can say is OMG I have definately overpacked! I bought enough outfits that I can change clothes every 3 hours and never have to wear the same outfit twice

I'm actually taking the LIRR into Manhattan....then hopping into a cab to get to port it's a lot cheaper then driving in and paying to park and I rather spend my money on other things then parking

hi folks
just was watching magic leaving the harbor on the new york harbor webcam was amazing. magic des take a long time to give you plenty of kodak moments and camcorder i time it to be 5:30 statue of liberty so we must by 4:00 dress for dinner
and be ready to take pics and be ready fir dinner just have clothes ready shower and
out with camera so if you have 6:00 dinner you will be late by maybe 15 mins.not to bad
but worth the pictures to be taken.i live in new york so late is fashionable and they will
understand.i rather have early seating and then do shows and entertainment.
