Hi I am wondering if you can help me. We are in the process of booking a trip from Dublin to Orlando. Unfortunately, aerlingus is no longer flying to orlando as of Jan. and going through London costs too much. So the alternatives are flying Dublin to New York and then either getting a cheap flight (if there is such a thing ) from NY to Orlando. The other option would be getting hire car from NY airport and driving down to Orlando and then back again to catch flight from NY to Orlando on way home. We will be hiring car while in Orlando anyway. So what do you all think? How long do you think it would take to drive? How much do you think it would cost to fly NY to Orlando?

Hi, generally I'm pretty sure you can get cheap flights from NY to Orlando. I would just check out the rates at some on line sites. I would also post this on the transportation forums. Good luck!

You can great deals for that leg of your trip. Jetblue.com and Southwest.com are two airlines that fly out of NY

Since you will be flying into JFK, I would suggest Jetblue. Its my personal favorite. But there are a slew of others, as well. Delta, USAir, Song.

May I ask when you are flying?

Dreamer04 We are hoping to go in Nov-2006. Do you have any idea how long it would take to drive?

Driving would be at least two days, it is about 1,100 miles.

For airlines, I would suggest three sites. One is www.orbitz.com which handles most large airlines. Another is www.jetblue.com which is a discount airline that flys out of JFK and the third is www.spiritair.com which is another discount airline that flies out of LaGuardia Airport and only about a half hour from Kennedy by coach.

However, I would suggest that once you get the flight information you need that you contact Aer Lingus and see if they will handle ticketing you; this can be very important in the event one of your flights is delayed (or you get slowed down at US Customs) and you miss a connection.

I would also have to say check out JetBlue. One way tickets can usually be found for $59 - $69. It's my favorite airline. :earsgirl:

It is a LOOOONG ride in the car. We used to do it when I was a kid. Now I ask my husband if he wants to drive or fly. Hands down to fly. The price is pretty cheap to fly. Especially the gas prices these days. I just filled up and it was $283 per gl. That is very high. It will cost you an arm and a leg with the gas prices. We are using Jetblue from JFK this August. Try jetblue or delta song. GOOD LUCK

For fun--I search for flights all the time--make sure you have a big enough window as you'll have to go pick up your luggage and re-check in (so that whole arrive 2 hours early stuff!!).

You could find flights easily for less than $200--with diligent shopping around $150 or even less!

I don't recommend driving either!! You might find that you are speaking of aerlingus in vain as you drive the distance ;).

Have you tried yourfloridaair.com or premiertravelservices.co.uk/ to see if they offer flights from Dublin to Orlando? They often have very good prices from the UK.

does Aer Lingus fly to Logan (Boston, Ma)? or Greene (Providence, RI)?
Would you consider another airport other than New York?
Perhaps, Pennsylvannia or Connecticut?

Don't forget - Sandford which is about 30 minutes from Disney. There are lots of charters that come in there from the UK and Ireland. Also, Delta flies from Dublin to Atlanta and then connects into Orlando. Continental also flies from Dublin to Orlando, making a connection.

Check out www.sidestep.com However, my husband works for Delta and does the rap for Aer Lingus and he states that the flights are not cut, just that they will fly less frequently into Orlando.

Hope this helps.

Ditto the other posters. Driving from NY to Orlando takes about 20 hours (driving time) or two days if you want to sleep at all. And the cost of gas being what it is here (about $2.50 per gallon) you would probably pay about $200 total (both ways) in gas alone, not to mention the rental car rate, a hotel room for one night each way (two total), food, etc. etc. Definitely look into flights - your pocketbook will probably not hate you and your nerves will defintely LOVE you :)

JetBlue is currently offering a $59 fare each way from JFK to Orlando. Why don't you check out their site to see if your travel times fit into their cheaper fares. We are on Long Island, and it takes us about 21 hours to travel by car with a stop over in the south...northern Georgia. Check out the fares, it might be the best resolution for you....possilby your schedule is flexible enough for you to secure this cheap airfare,

Nicola, how did you come out on your travel plans? Hope everything worked out.

Just a note, Song airlines offers some REALLY cheap air fares if you book far enough out. We booked in March for August and our round trip fare from NY, with taxes and fees was $145.50. The exact same flights have been coming up at $350.00 for the past two months (this I know because DD19 changed her mind about coming with us and I have been researching flights).

My vote is for flying. I live in Ohio and would never consider driving. Too long. You already will be tired from the flight. :)
