I'm thinking of flying with Virgin to New York for a few days before heading to Orlando. How easy is this to sort out?

Would Virgin arrange everything for me or is it a case of me sorting out return transfer to JFK and the internal flight???

Hi Kevin,

Travelling from NY to Orlando is very easy. I've actually done it about 6 times! Virgin should be able to sort everything out for you. They code share with Continental Airlines.

Have fun planning!

Hi Kevin,

I'm sure Virgin offer this as a package. Off the top of my head, it's 4 days in NY and 10 days Orlando but I daresay you could amend it. Would you be prepared to arrange yourself? If so I expect you could save quite a bit as you can get really reasonable internal flights within the US.

Cheers

Karen

I'm pretty sure Virgin would do everything for you. I swear I read something about two-centre holidays in the back of one of their brouchers once and it looked like they covered everything. I'm guessing they'll arrange a Continental flight from JFK or La Guardia to MCO as that's who they normally code-share with.

Personally, I'd book everything myself, but that's just my preffered way of doing things (haven't booked any holiday through a company or high street travel agent since 1997).

I would book just flights with Virgin, from LHR-JFK and MCO-LGW and then arrange your own flight from JFK-MCO.

There are a number of exceptional quality airlines that fly from New York to Orlando. JetBlue and SONG are amongst the best and both offer incredible value fares (often around $49/person), along with exceptional in-flight entertainment (MUCH better than Virgin Atlantic) and generous legroom, plus delicious deli-style snacks available for purchase.

You will have more flexibility and should save money too by arranging it yourself. Virgin Holidays (I think) tend to use AA or another major carrier on their New York to Orlando transfers - making it much more expensive.

This is exactly what we did last year. We flew LHR-JFK just after Christmas, spent New Year's Eve in New York, flew American Airlines from La Guardia to MCO, and then back from MCO-LGW. The AA internal flights were about £40 each. And because you've already cleared customs in New York, you don't have the double baggage collection at MCO.

hi, we flew with continental to Mco from Manchester via Newark last year, although we did not stay over in NY we could have had a couple of days if we had wanted to. All we would have required was a room and you can get a train from Newark to Penn station (Times square) and then walk or taxi to your hotel.

Deb, how did you find LGA? I seem to have heard nothing but horror stories about the state of the airport and the consistent delays due to it only having the one runway. How far was it from central Manhattan? We are flying from JFK-MCO but may consider this route in the future if it is nearer to Manhattan or an okay airport. The rates seemed to be very slightly better for our dates and times. It's great to know about the double baggage collection in MCO, I remember that being such a pain, it's nice to know we won't have to do it this time.

It isn't very big, but it's clean and the facilities are fine. We sat at a bar which was at one end of an open plan area along the lines of a food court, I think. The bar was pleasant enough.

I seem to remember we had fun and games trying to use the kerbside check-in. In fact, I think we ended up having to check in at the desk, but my memory is a bit foggy. I'm pretty sure we weren't delayed.
