i am scurrying to change our 10/7 Fantasy sailing last minute. Can anyone share their experiences with sailing from NY in Oct? How are those sea days? Cold? We are in TN, but the itinerary on 10/6 looks pretty good. Maybe it isn't what we'd normally book, but under he circumstances it may work. Trying to avoid doing our 3rd western. Appreciate any opinions.

Early October can be still very warm in NYC, can be in the 70's during the day, but mornings and evenings will be cool. If it rains then it's on the cool side. However I love florida and Bahamas weather in October, it's not too hot anymore, we find it very comfortable. So majority if not all of your sailing early October should be warm :)

Thank you! That is very helpful.

I live in NY (just outside of NYC) and the weather in October is usually great....the end of October can be a mixed bag....we have had a blizzard on Halloween and we have had high 60's...you never know.

Early October should be lovely. We are on the 10/14/17 Bahamas/WDW cruise and can't wait.

You're right, it usually decides to be cold or even drizzle snow on Halloween...comes out of nowhere...70's or high 60's all month then BOOM! ;)
Should be very warm early Oct.
Like shorts and t-shirt kind of warm.
I wish we were going to..... have an amazing cruise :)

We loved sailing out of NYC last year - so much so that we are doing it again next year! I'd say it's tied for our favorite sail away scenery with Vancouver for very different reasons, obviously. We left NYC on 10/02 and it was pretty cold and a bit rainy at sail away, though it didn't deter us from being on deck - just dress for it. After that, the weather was wonderful and we headed north to Canada!! I would think heading south would be lovely. I say go for it and have a great cruise. As an added bonus you can hit WDW when the parks are decorated for Halloween.

My son was swimming on our Oct cruise to Canada last year. The worst day was actually leaving NY when it was rainy (still just light jacket weather).

Just be aware that October is still hurricane season, too (which you probably already know since you were going to cruise then anyway). The cruise after ours last year, which was supposed to head south, went north instead because of an incoming hurricane.

The day we are at WDW is not a "Halloween party" day....would there be a reason (other than personal preference) to dress for Halloween at the park? I plan to dress up onboard for HOTHS but not at the park.

Other than for parties, adults are not permitted to wear costumes per se at the theme parks. If you want to wear Halloween shirts, no problem with that.

I meant that the parks would be dressed up for Halloween! :goodvibes I didn't exactly word that in the best way. Oops! I'll edit it for clarification. Thanks!

Weather out of NY is definitely a mixed bag this time of the year. For reference, we were on the 10/15 sailing out of NY last year. On 10/15, it was a gorgeous sunny warm day. We wore long sleeves initially, but were comfortable on deck in short sleeves. Coming back to NY the following Saturday, it was miserable, rainy and cold and our sweatshirts were definitely not warm enough for the weather. It just varies. That being said, it was easily pool weather by midday the first sea day. While I enjoy leaving out of PC for instant pool weather from the second we are on the ship, you make compromises (for us, sailing out of NY is very convenient -- for you, perhaps a last minute change and avoiding a repeat itinerary may be worth it, too.)

I can tell you, despite some reservations, we are booked again this year on the 10/6 cruise and very much looking forward to it! The WDW day is so neat -- it really feels like a special treat in the middle of a cruise. My DS4 specifically asked to go back on Mickey's ship and sail to Mickey's castle (part of why we booked again this year). We've got a great group over on the social-media-site-that-will-not-be-named. Come over and join us if you book!

Can I assume that most onboard activities are sold out? Character bfast, meet n greets etc?

Unfortunately, yes, most advanced bookings are full. I think the Disney Junior breakfast, the Frozen meet n greet, and the Princess meet n greet are all full. There are still open beverage tastings. There is at least one Palo brunch slot still open; I am not sure about dinner. Lots of open nursery time! If you've sailed DCL before, then you probably know a lot of people drop bookings right before the sail date and/or once on board and Disney usually opens new slots once on baord, so I would think you'll still have a chance on getting some of these, depending on what your priorities are.

I checked for 5 people, based on your signature (the one year old won't count for booking seats on the bus), and this is what I see for availability:

AK: 7:15, 7:45, 8:15 and 9:15
HS: 7:15, 8:15, 9:15
Epcot: 7:45, 8:15 and 9:15
MK: 7:30, 7:45, 8:15, 8:45, 9:15

There is a lot more open than I thought - it looks like all but perhaps the 7:15 bus to MK is open. Hope this helps!

Awesome! Thank you! Just heard back from or TA. Looks like $1500 more than our fantasy sailing so now to make a decision.
