New York and DVC

We went once and really liked it, will be going back for sure. Might use some RCI points next year if it works out.

So lovely Jade. SO LOVELY. :goodvibes My stomach dropped.

Thanks for your imput, I love taking photos especially nightscapes. I will roll the dice with MS tomorrow. Continental allow us to layover in NY for as many days as we like flying Belfast-Orlando so that cuts down the expense.

Please let us know. A trip report? I'll beg! popcorn::

I was just able to be the Manhattan Club for July 19 and 20th. I kept calling everyday and finally something came up. My dates were flexible and I just booked this a week ago. It was only 15 points per night for a studio, which is awesome and I only had to pay $95 fee. I figure I am getting two nights in new york for only $95. When I looked up the Manhatten Club it was over $300 per night for a studio. We are so excited.

Nice. I SO need me some more DVC points. Thanks for sharing that Jen. Have fun. Let us know. PLEASE! :goodvibes

We just spent three nights in September at the Lowes' Regency. Lots of points but oh so worth it. The hotel was on the East side, two blocks walk from Central Park, very well located and comfortable. We had a wonderful time in New York. We were only there for a short time but we saw two Broadway shows, took the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, walked around Times Square and spent time in Central Park. It was an easy city to navigate and we definitely will go back. Much as we love Disney, we are now empty nesters (bought DVC in 1995) so we feel it's time to explore the possibilities outside of the Parks.

Thanks for all your help. I saved the points, made a cash booking at the Paramount in Times Square and fly down to orlando for 12 days at BLT after the 4 in NY :goodvibes

As a native NYer and Resident of NYC, I would NEVER waste points on it. You're much better off paying out of pocket and using your points towards something that gives you more bang for your buck.

I agree about not wasting points on a NYC hotel...only because you can get a better deal by finding one on your own....but, I'm one of the people who won't use points outside of Disney.

I use Travelzoo all the time for our overnight NYC stays. We live a couple hours away and stay there frequently.
By booking outright, you also have more choices.
Just be mindful that NYC hotel rooms are very, very small compared to the norm. However, we just stayed at the New Yorker in late August and were pleasantly surprised on how spacious it was...very large for a hotel room and it had two full bathrooms. the price was reasonable too...i think about $150 for the night.

DH and I live 1 mile from NYC...the George Washington Bridge tolls are literally right over the side of our building. DH commutes to work every day to the City without a thought.

It's amazing how much you take for granted when it is right in front of your face. NYC is a beautiful place and filled with tons of things to do and so many places to visit...sometimes, when driving down the cliffs to the edge of the Hudson...you glance over and just think to yourself...WOW, it just looks awesome.

Have fun in the City, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves!

Starting to think about next year. Plan A is to spend 4-5 days in NY and then down to WDW (or the other way around) From what I gather the Concierge Collection offers Lowes Regency While RCA offers The Manhatten Club or the Hilton club of NY.
The only time we have moved out of DVC resorts was to do the DCL.

Any recomendations as to

1 The order to do the trip.
2 Reviews of the "hotels" offered
3 The differences between Concierge option and RCI
4 Anythong else I have't thought about

We are within our booking window for our early preference so I had better get a move on. We had thought April or maybe September

Kylie: I don't know if you're still looking for feedback (I'm brand-new here, so I'm playing catch-up<g>), but I can tell you that points are *definitely* a good way to go in NYC right now. The hotel industry there has definitely rebounded from its post 9/11 days and the subsequent travel recession; hotels that you could find on Priceline for under $100 are now back to their pre-9/11 range of $400 or so. (And I'm talking about standard guestrooms at mid-tier properties.) Of course, I think you're coming from Ireland. . . so you'll make out nicely with our weak dollar.<g>

As for the locations, I've stayed at the 6th Avenue Hilton on several occasions as a *hotel guest*, and it's a very good property that's ideally situated in Midtown; if Manhattan is your prime focus, you'll be well placed to cover the entire island. . . plus you'll be very close to the main Midtown sites, from Radio City and Rockefeller Plaza to Central Park, shopping on Fifth and Madison Avenues, and within easy walking distance to Grand Central, Bryant Park, Carnegie Hall, etc.

Hope this helps.

Bob

P.S. I love NYC. Next month, I'll be making my 18th visit. . .

Okay, my apologies for replying to your first message without making sure you hadn't posted a conclusion.

While Times Square wouldn't have been my first choice for a hotel -- just way too busy, in the heart of Tourist Central -- you should be well placed for seeing whatever other parts of the city are appealing to you. And, frankly, there's something really amazing about Times Square, no matter what the "haters" might say.<g> But I'll encourage you to get out to see what's beyond all of the flashing lights and pressing crowds.

Have a great trip!

Bob
