Do any of the resorts do anything special for New Years? We are planning on staying at SSR over the holiday- are there fireworks at DTD that you can see from the rsort?
Do any of the other resorts have anything special?

well I though that PI had cancelled all their fireworks - but other posters say that on NYE they had the fireworks.

For my 2000th post, let me tell you about New Years Eve at Saratoga Springs Resort -- DO IT!

Spiceycat is correct in the memory that PI have cancelled their nightly fireworks, however the New Years Eve fireworks are absolutely spectacular.

The recreation department at SSR hosted a nice party at the Congress Park pool and fireworks viewing plaza. They distributed noisemakers and party hats and had a cash bar open. The New Years Eve fireworks began at the stroke of midnight and lasted for approximately 10 minutes. Throughout it all the sky was filled with comets, rockets, exploding stars, flashes and thunderous bangs. It was a wonderful way to ring in 2007.

Oh my goodness, do they ever. My DH and I stayed at SSR this past NYE and it was incredible. We had planned to go to MGM for the fireworks because the park was staying open for Extra Magic hours. We ate dinner and it bothered our stomachs. Due to this, we decided to stay in the room and watch the Dick Clark countdown on TV. At around 11:45, I decided I wanted to go next to the lake and see what type of view we would have for the fireworks at DTD. We walked across the street to where the quiet pool was and were amazed at what was going on. We had no idea, but SSR was having a huge pool party and countdown. I think everyone that was staying at the resort was there. They gave out hats and party makers and had a DJ. We got our party favors and walked out of the pool area to the lawn where the lake was. Most people were smart and had brought their chairs fom the balcony with them to sit on. Anyway, at midnight the fireworks began. We were so close to the fireworks that we had debris falling right near our feet. Not only did we get an amazing view of the DTD fireworks, but we also got an amazing view of the MGM fireworks and a partial view of the Epcot fireworks. Words can not describe how amazing it was. It was so amazing that the next week we purchased DVC so that we could enjoy it every year. I can not wait until tomorrow to call and book the first night of NYE.

In regards to DTD getting rid of fireworks, they used to do a NYE everynight of the year. They cancelled that, but still celebrate the actual NYE.

I can only speak for SSR since I have not stayed at the other resorts during NYE, but I would think that BWV and BCV would do something since they are close to the Epcot fireworks.

That sounds so fun. I am officially excited-:cool1:
RC- happy 2000th post!

Were there kids at the Saratoga Springs NYE events??? We have two kids (4yo and 7yo), and we don't want to fight the crowds at a park (we are staying at SSR). We were thinking about going out to a nice dinner, and then heading back to the resort.

ABSOLUTELY!! There were kids!!! My family also spends NYE at SSR (and have since it opened) and there are plenty of activities for the children. The DJ plays RadioDisney music, they have contests with prizes, like hula hoop, and Disney trivia, cha-cha slide (my fave from DCL), popcorn, noisemakers, hats, beads, lei's, my boys swam in the pool with other children and played on the playground with the other children too.

When it was time for the fireworks, we all sat on the edge of the lake and had the best fireworks view EVER!!

You could hear the roar of the crowd over at PI and it was like we were having our own private pool party across the lake. I really enjoy bringing in the New Year as a family:love:

When it was over, we packed it up and went back to our room:cloud9:

If you decide to go, we will see you there!!

Oh-- that's awesome!!!! Thank you!!!! I showed this thread to my DH, and he said, this is definitely where we'll be!!!! We wanted to do Epcot, but don't want to have to get there early in the day, and fight the crowds when coming home. Hanging at SSR sounds great!!!!! I'm so excited!!! I'm hoping to make this an annual tradition!

We watched the fireworks from the edge of the pool. DD7 ended 2006 with a swim in the pool -- got out for 10 minutes to watch the fireworks -- and started 2007 off right by jumping right back into the pool.

Bring the kids!!
