New Year's Eve Dinner

New Years Eve, is appetizers for us. We will have hot wings, mexican dip, cocktail wienies, shrimp, and bread w/ spinach dip.

New Years day, I will make ribs, sauerkraut, and I'm trying a new recipe with rice, black eyed peas, and Andouille sausage

we do a really informal 'buffet' style dinner..we have jumbo shrimp cocktail, grilled sea scallops w/lemon butter, devilled eggs, garlic bologna, cheese, crackers, either baked potatoes, or sometimes I make potato salad, and usually a fancy dessert..dinner on New Years Day is the traditional for us..roast pork w/sauerkraut *for luck*, mashed potatoes, fresh asparagus, carrots, and homemade applesauce

booze and brownies.

I start the year off right.

:thumbsup2 Just plain brownies????;):rotfl2:

We crack out the ol' Weber and grill some steaks and shrimp - even in snow 2 years ago.
Top that off with some Candy Cane Pie and drinks. Mmmm!!!

Usually lasagna early, then appetizers after 8 or so. It's just DH, me and the 2 kids this year -- no plans whatsoever (and no TV.....), so I'm pretty sure it'll be low key!

It's a splurge night for us and I look forward to it for it's only once a year:
Filet Mignon with asparagus, Bernaise sauce, rice pilaf, a salad and some homemade yeast rolls. No dessert, too full by then!

New Year's Day is a hearty football fare of chili, queso dip and chips and stromboli with some fresh veggies and dip.

I love these days!

I think we are doing Chinese food this year! Mmmmmm.....

Probably nothing special. I work, so whatever's on hand and is easy to make. On New Year's day I'm going to do something with pork, don't know what yet though, but I have some pork chops and appelsauce.

What's with the saurkraut for luck thing? Never heard of that.

Its a mid west tradition. I'm from Ohio, and my Grandma used to insist that I ate at least one bite. When I moved to Md--people looked at me like I had 3 heads when I mentioned sauerkraut for New Years. It's all about black-eyed peas here.

It's our tradition to have appetizers for dinner on New Year's Eve. My parents always did that and when I was older, my friends used to beg to come to my house for NYE. :lmao: My parents were a lot of fun and great cooks.

This year, we also did appetizers for Christmas Eve and dd was in heaven. :thumbsup2

Appetizers/finger foods for dinner, followed by chocolate fondue with fresh fruit later in the evening - a tradition the kids look forward to all year.

We usually go out to dinner and a movie, so whatever we're in the mood for that evening.

New Year's Day though is always ham, black-eyed peas and turnip greens, as Southern tradition dictates. :lmao:

Stone crabs, hash browns, broiled tomatoes and champagne!!

Care to share what appetizers these might be? :flower3:
