New Years Eve at WDW

Hello! We are thinking of planning a last minute trip to WDW for a Christmas present! Our possible dates are Dec. 31 to Jan. 5. I was wondering if anyone knew about WDW during these dates. What is the world like on New Years Eve? Our children are 12 and 8. Any ideas where to stay last minute? We are up for anything. Has anyone ever stayed at the Hilton outside of the park? What about the Pop Century? Am I too late? Any other tips on where to book the trip for the best deal? Thanks in advance!

Don't have time for a long response.
If you are staying on site, you are guaranteed to get into a park, maybe not your first choice, but at leasst somewhere. If you are staying off-site, you may not get in at all and would need to be there early.
DH and I have been there twice for the period you are going and DD and I went once. I remember hearing on the news the next day that MK had closed to outside guests around 10 am.
