New Year's Eve 2008 12/27/08 SEE POST#1 FOR LIST

The Adventures by Disney tours are expensive, that's for sure. There are discussion threads on DIS about that (and everything else Disney!!!). The people who have done the tours a lot say that they are priced to be comparable to the Tauck family tours, which are supposed to be terrific, and there are special Disney touches and things that only Disney can pull off, etc., etc. Of course you can do it for less if you do it on your own, but the view is that it is SO much easier if they do it for you, and there are some things you might not be able to pull off on your own (the Disney magic again). This will be our first tour, not just with Disney but ever, so we'll see. It's hard not to get into it, the trip reports are just amazing, and each year the tours fill up more quickly and they add more, so they must be doing something right.

Nan, if your mom is your role model, then you're all very lucky to have each other. From the strength you're all sharing, it seems she must get through this. And it's clear to me from reading this thread the whole way through so recently that this is always a place to turn to for laughter!

ahhhh...i'm SOOO jealous...i really want a reduction / lift...and i may just end up having that done! with or without DH's blessing~

Sorry to go on about this (apologies to Grimm if you're reading) but Brenda, if you even vaguely feel you'd benefit from this op, you should seriously consider it! I absolutely cannot put into words how it's changed my life for the better - the list is endless! I was extremely nervous about the whole thing and even backed out when my first date for surgery came thro' but after another year of mounting pain, I re-scheduled and I've never been happier. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me... ;)

But enough of this ladytalk - time for some moustaches methinks...

Now this thread is just simply oozing machismo!!! GRRR!!! Lets arm wrestle!!!

Sorry for this sad post, but as you've said Cindy here is the place we come to share, good, bad and ugly. This I'm afraid is the later.

I just got a call from my cousin, Laura, in Redding, her preemie baby granddaughter passed last night. Shalya was a twin. Her sister Sierra is holding strong. She had an infection last week and it looked like they had it under control, but suddenly and ferociously it came back in the night and she passed. She was 2 months old yesterday. The twins were born on my mom's 80th birthday.

Mom(Toni) and Dad(Brian) are strong stock, but nonetheless I'm sure are devastated with this. They also have a son 3 years old at home.

Please keep my extended family in your prayers.

Nan

Nan, that is so terribly sad. All of us with children can feel so for those lovely people who have had such a tragedy befall them. It is rainy and grim on the east coast today, and the weather seems appropriate for such sad news. Certainly your entire family is in my prayers today.

Cindy

Aw Nan, how desperately sad. You and your family are really under the cosh at the moment and my heart goes out to you all. I will definitely keep your family in my prayers...

Sending you all pixiedust: and  from across the pond...

My kindest regards...
Kxxx

Oh Nan....that is just the saddest news!!! Prayers for everyone....i hope they find the strength they need to keep them going. My good friend lost one of her twin grandchilden not long ago (just a little shy of 1st bd)....and then the parents (teenagers really) decided they didn't want the other baby so barb is adopting her or trying to anyway.

Thanks for the prayers everyone. Yesterday was a somber day for me. I was tasked with making the rest of the tell the family calls. It was hard, but I knew my cousin needed me to step in and help her with this. I'm feeling at a lost for a hug with her. She is 5 hours away by car and we see each other maybe every one or two years. We are close by phone and email. Our father's were brothers. We have shared our grief over losing our dads together. Her mom is also in a home. She too is the care giver (hmmmmm, sounds just like me huh) okay the funny part is that she lives in the country with animals and dirt all around, me not so much :lmao: :lmao: good funnny picture in my mind.

must get back to work now, lots going on the juice is to hit the market mid next month  (hahah get it banana):rolleyes1

I have a confession.....I'm using the copy and paste feature for posting the same info to the 2 different threads I'm on. Is that a bad thing?

I just don't have the energy to type this kind of stuff twice. Please forgive me.

Grim, do you and Paul need to have a V talk :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

ok, maybe not yet for you, but did you know that was his Xmas present the year we sailed?????

On that trip I decided yup, I'm done. So you can be too. OK TMI!!!

I totally picture Green Acres when you said you on a farm!

I can admit I use the cut and paste method too...I share pretty much the same info with my threadkillers that I share here. I change them up a touch for Brenda and Aisling's sake since I know they frequent both threads ;)

Question for you guys: do people typically bring alcohol on board with them to avoid running up large drink charges? We've only been on a 3-night cruise before now, and we bought a 3-bottle package with our meals (the more expensive one, if I remember right). I'm wondering whether people bring bottles to have before dinner to keep the costs down. Any thoughts?

last cruise we brought a bottle of wine. okay it was port for after dinner. We most likely will do that again for this cruise. I might be inclined to stop and grab a jug of Rum this time around too.

for sure on our repo (15 days) I'm grabbing some rum before hand.

could we buy a bottle of something at one of the ports and open it? I know you can buy at the duty free shop on the ship, but you can't open those on board, I've heard people say you get them as you disenbark.

I absolutely plan on bringing a bottle or two to bring on this trip~

I like rum, vodka and tequila. I also like brandy, which why I think I liked the port wine nan and fam brought (cause it's really wine mixed with brandy.) Rose likes crown royal.

I'm thinking you can buy at the ports. Once they are open you'd have to finish it or they make you leave it behind when you disembark. If they are closed when you dock they get counted within your duty free limitations.

I brought the mix for kamakazies on board - vodka, lime juice, triple sec.

I would many times mix a drink & take it to dinner or the club without a problem.

NAN - lots of pixie dust to you.:wizard:

Awwwwwwwwwww...

Great pics Nan~

My camera dilemma is coming to a head. I got a request to do band shots for a friend tomorrow and I have to tell him I don't have the camera anymore :(

I am going to put him off for one week and take the time to go try both cameras at a local camera shop. I looked at a Nikon D40 today but it was at Target and there's no caparison there when it doesn't turn on. I really want to have it in my hand when I decide whether the D80 is worth the cost or not. I've seen pics taken by the D80 and they were gorgeous. The girl using it was at DL right after we were and took stuff similar to what I did and I like her pictures way better than mine.

I missed something what happened to your camera?
