Hey! We are hoping to make another trip to Cali during school winter break. At this point, I am checking flights and fares to get us to the DLR for Jan 1 - 6th. There is a really early morning flight that would have us arrive by noon on New Year's Day. I have read in the past that the parks see capacity crowd on NYEve, but I am wondering what kind of nutty sitch would greet us by noon on Jan. 1. Would we even bother to try getting in to either park, only to stand in wall to wall people??? I would be happy to just make reservations somewhere for an early dinner and stroll around the DTD area (assuming it would be open....is it?)

And then, from Jan 2-6, will it be mad busy? Please tell me your experiences or suggestions to help me decide about what flights to book.

Thanks,

Kelli

We were there for New Years Day this year for a quick visit before starting a cruise. It was my first time there since I was a kid and I was pretty worried about visiting for the first time on a holiday with two toddlers, but it was that or nothing.

We arrived for rope drop New Years Day and it was surprisingly uncrowded for the first few hours. However, the crowds were building pretty seriously by late morning. Mid day was pretty much wall to wall people, but I was pleasantly surprised at how smoothly everything went despite the crowds. We used the fastpass system, enjoyed the decorations, rode the carousel and Winnie the Pooh with almost no lines and still had a great day. If you go expecting crowds and planning for them it makes a lot of difference.
