NEW Wilderness Lodge FAQ!!

picking up my tickets from AAA. I can't wait, we don't go till august 11th - 16th, its a honeymoon trip (our wedding is the 10th). Triple A has been amazing. They gave me a guide book when i order the room and air (both thru disney) and when i picked up the tickets they gave me a photo album.

Ok i'm reading thru the hotel stuff i got, its on orange paper and its got the walt disney travel co logo on the top.
It states that the "Standard bedding at this hotel (the wilderness lodge) is 2 Queen beds or 1 Queen bed and 1 set of bunk beds. An upgrad to a King bed may be availiable for an additional charge" I know i've heard 999 ghts say that there are king beds in woods view which is what we have. And when we reserved the room they said it was a king bed. Being that its our honeymoon, a king bed would be nice.

I have planned on faxing the request for a king bed a couple days before, but being so close to the wedding i'm afraid i might forget. Is there anything i can do farther in advance to make sure i have a king bed.

The other question i have is on the iterary it has listed a sport complex adm or mini golf with a star next to it, saying this option available on checkin, what does that mean?

Thank you to everyone in advance, you have been so helpful, and i look forward to much posting when i get back, so i can provide others with the wonderful information you have provide me with.

Wenlitz,
We definitely thought it was worth the $35 to upgrade. First, a refrigerator comes with the room. That alone is worth $10.00 a day which it costs if not in concierge. We loved having breakfast sitting in chairs at a table gazing down at the lobby. We never had to stand in lines at Roaring Forks. It was also worth it to us to have all the sodas and water bottles we needed. I always asked for water bottles at night so they could be cold for the morning. (For some reason there water bottles are not kept cold.)
As you probably know, water bottles cost about $2.50 around the lodges and parks. Sodas are about $2.00.

The nights we were back before 10:00 I loved having a glass of wine and some cookies and other pastries. We were made to feel very special! One concierge even got us much desired priority seating at Chef Mickey's!!

The snacks they have from 5:00 to 7:00 were always delicious. It's not enough to take the place of dinner.

We also discovered another perk as we went to check out. When we called for a bell person to get our luggage, we were told it would be at least 25 minutes before someone could get there. My husband asked if he could get someone from concierge to help him then. The response? "OH, you're in concierge! We'll put you at the top of the list. Someone will be right there." They were there within three minutes!

I'm so glad we splurged.

999ghts~

I am definitely interested in upgrading to concierge when we check-in July 23. Do you think that is something I should mention in my fax to the WL? Or, should I just request the area that I want for my woodsview room and then see if concierge is available when I get there? I didn't know if the room controller would rather know in advance that I would love to pay the $45.00 night to upgrade to concierge.

Thanks again for ALL of you wonderful info and tips! You're the best!:Pinkbounc

Real quick question here...My fiance and I will be checking in to WL on July 23 for our honeymoon. Later that evening, we will be going to Victoria and Albert's for dinner; therefore, we both have to be somewhat dressed up. After flying in from Maryland, I know our clothes will be fairly wrinkled. Does WL have an ironing board and an iron in the room? This would be helpful to know in case I need to pack an iron. Thanks for your help!!!

Brooke

ladyntramplover,
There was an iron and ironing board in each room.

beb,
My 12 year old dd enjoyed the pool a lot. I don't know how many feet long the slide is, but she thought it was fun. It had about two curves in it. However, it's not particularly steep or long. How old is your dd?

Have fun!

ladyntramplover,
I meant to extend my congratulations to you on your upcoming wedding! Wilderness Lodge is a wonderfully romantic place for your honeymoon. We've never eaten at Victoria and Albert's, but I've read about it and it should be a perfect way to start your honeymoon!

Thank you so much for your help, everyone! My fiance and I have been to Disney quite a few times, but we've never stayed at the Lodge before. Because of you guys, I've learned so much about it! You guys are great!

beb. .. the pool is open until 12 midnight... the slide I think closed at 10:00...corvair

...what are WL late check-out policies? Our plans have recently been altered. Instead of driving to/from NJ, we are now flying! Our flight on Sunday doesn't leave until after 7PM that night, so I was wondering about the use of our rooms for a few extra hours....

Hi all! I've perused this thread to find the best info on my room request for my honeymoon this August. I have a woods view room booked and it is already noted on my ressie that I would like a 4th or 5th floor room on the MK side. I plan to fax the room controller 3 days prior to arrival and add that I would like a view of the otter pond, too. Does the room that I've requested also have a view of the lobby? If I get an upgrade to courtyard at check-in, where would rooms that have a view of the lake and geyser be located? Any suggestions or info is appreciated! Thanks!:D

999ghsts, first off, THANK YOU for taking the time to answer everyone's questions!

Here's my question: I am planning on booking a courtyard room. I would like to be near the main pool. It seems like everyone is requesting rooms on the upper floors (I assume for a better view). What would the view be like on the first floor? Do these rooms have a patio? What room(s) would be most accessable to the pool area? My son will be turning 5 on our trip next spring and I have a feeling the pool will be where we spend the majority of our time at the resort. I would hate to hike a long way (espec. through the lobby) to get access to the main pool.

Thank you again for your help! It is GREATLY appreciated!:bounce:

any way of knowing it is you

Hello I am a newbie here and wanted to say Hello to everyone who has been giving so much information. This is such a great thread. I have been"lurking" here for about 2 weeks in anticipation of our next vacation at WDW next year. I am so excited. :p 999 You are such a credit to Disney World and set such an example of the "spirit" of what its all about. Thank you for your wealth of information im sure we have ALL gained from you.

We made REssies!! We are going to WL arriving May 4 2003 for 6 nights. yippeeeeeeee!!! DH and I went to WL and WDW for our honeymoon in 96 but stayed July 1 through the 5th, and it was quite warm. This will be our second trip to the World and are taking our 3 children with us. YAYAY They are excited as we are. My question is this. This time we have made ressies for May 4 2003 for 6 nights and 7 days, will we see a big difference in the weather? Will it be too cold to swim ? What has anyone else who went there in May discovered? Any advice or input would be appreciated. Thank You!!

Laura

I also agree, this is such a great thread. 999ghsts has been soooo extremely helpful as has everyone else who has posted on this thread!

I have a question I found on the resorts board from DisneyPoly:

Does anyone know if the Wilderness Lodge still offers storytelling at 8:30 p.m. in the lobby? I read on Deb Willis' site that this is offered and was just wondering if anyone knows if they are still doing this.

Thanks for the update!

Welcome to the DIS!

It will DEFINITELY NOT be too cold to swim. May is not as hot as July but it's still hot. The average high is 88.

Hope you all have a great trip!!!
