figment95,

Thanks for the input. I sure hope we end up with a nice woodsview. That is what we paid for. My hubbie (a.k.a. Grumpy) would not be pleased if we paid for somthing we didn't get. We are driving down to Tampa/St. Pete area to spend a few days before we get to WDW. Hopefully, I will be able to get access to a fax machine while there so I can send in my room rq before arrival.

We're really not that picky but of course would enjoy a nice woodsview.

Any other opinions on WL? How did you like the pool and restaurants? How about the transportation?

Thanks figment95!

When we stayed at the Lodge in Sept 00, there was a pin cart in the lobby area. My then 7 year old DD started her pin collection there and it was staffed by some really nice CMs. Is the cart still there?

Hi fellow teacher!

You can charge to your room all over Disney World. There is another thread right now discussing credit card theft. Using your room key to charge seems to alleviate this problem, because the only place with your cc # is your resort. It's nice to have an accounting of all that you spent on your resort tab (sometimes its a little shocking:cool: )

You can charge meals, souveniors, anything. I think the only place you can't charge is at the small ice cream and popcorn carts. It makes it very convenient not to have to carry a lot of cash.

I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade remedial mathematics at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. My DSis (who is a confessed lurker [only because she isn't registered, yet!] is a teacher also...:D ) I used to teach 3rd grade, but I like the older students....:D And, since we are on the subject of "teachers", why doesn't WDW offer special discounts for the educators of America? They certainly regard them in high esteem by honoring them as "Teacher of the Year" (do they still do that??), so why not do so (a'la Dolphin/Swan) by giving them a little "break"....Just IMHO!!

BTW - Did someone mention PIN CART??!?!?!?! I can see my piddly collection of WDW pins growing by the day:bounce: !!

Countdown to WDW:
1 month - 6 days - 2 hours - 14 minutes - WOOHOO!!!!
(hmmmm, I wonder how much corvair amy is enjoying her vacation.. )

Can someone tell me if you can see the fireworks good from the beach at WL? We are staying there the last 3 nights of our vacation (labor day weekend) and were going to wind down while were are there. The only night the fireworks will be in that Sat night and instead of fighting the crowd I would rather site on the beach and watch them and than see the water pageant.

Also we good a woodview room and requested a room with bunkbeds. Is their a specific area that I should request?

Thanks,

Lisa

I to am a teacher. I teach math at a local community college in illinois. Seems all of us have that research instinct. We will be at the WL Aug 2 - 9. I am bringing my mom who is a retired teacher. We only have standard rooms booked. I hope we end up with a lobby room and that they are not too noisy at night. We are pretty much gone all day.

;) I've got it figured out! Yes, it might be that we like knowledge so much that we research all we can about a topic, but my theory is that it seems planning a trip is much like writing lesson plans for the classroom. Anyone writing a mental planbook of their trip yet? LOL!

Thanks, Chances Mom for the info. regarding charging things to the room. It is very helpful to know!

BTW, I agree....teacher discounts would be a great thing for WDW resorts to offer, too!

Pluto 14- I hate to admit it, but I do have a folder full of notes from past trips, and I do write out each day of the trip's itinerary. My DH thinks I'm crazy, but I just can't help myself!

There have been some negative comments on other threads about recent transportation issues at the WL, but then some people are saying that they had no problems.

I am anxiously awaiting corvair amy's trip report when she returns! Hopefully she will bring good news about transportation.

Woody 5- I'll be arriving at the Lodge on 8/11, so maybe I'll get your lobby room. That is what I am going to request, too!

:sunny:

I've got 2 more days to get through and then I'll BE ON MY WAY!!!! YAAAAAY!!!!
:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I faxed my room request this morning, and now I'm washing clothes and packing some. I've been getting emails and phone calls from my 5 yr old nephew telling me how many days we have left.... he's so cute and really excited.

I found a roll of lime green ribbon on sale at A.C. Moore Crafts and I'm going to put it on my luggage as well as my backpack.
I figure there's no way I'll miss my luggage with a piece of ribbon THAT color on it! ;)

I wish ya'll were going to be there at the same time I am, so I could say thanks in person. 'Cause you're not, I'll have to thank everyone ('specially 999ghts :) )HERE for all your help planning my vacation. I find that planning it and anticipating adds so much to the fun.

I'll try to keep a little daily diary so I can post my trip report when I get back.
In the meantime... THANKS and everyone take care.

Sandra

Chance's Mom and Pluto14-
I think I may have you BOTH beat!! Two weeks ago, we had a "Disney meeting" with all of our family members to go over PS's, itinerary, special points-of-interest, etc. I was even wearing two of my 100-yr celebration pins! (BTW-everyone at the meeting was making fun of me and kept asking if they were eligible to get a WDW pin at the 2nd meeting!!! lol) You see, there are 12 of us driving to WDW, and, at a later date, the rest of the "crew" will be joining us via Continental Airlines. So, it was important to establish a general "wish list" of "must do's", "should do's", "don't waste your time", and "nahhhh, maybe next WDW visit". This way, when we all are together, if we do something on a particular day, there are no hard feelings, because we will have all agreed to it at our meeting. Of course, there is room for flexibility, but it is SO important to have a basic plan.
Anyway, sorry for rambling, and Iago's Mom we all hope you enjoy your vaca......I'm sending some MAGICAL PIXIE DUST * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * :bounce: your way so that you have a wonderful, safe, and RAIN-FREE trip!!!!:D

Countdown to WDW:
1 month - 5 days - 2 hours - 10 minutes - Yippee, skippee!!

My DH and I will be staying at WL for his BDAY!! in September. He's in engineering and I'm in accounting! Put the two together and we leave almost NO room for error - LOL!

We live in Tampa (we go to WDW a LOT!) and have experience planning for any contingency (rain, heat, etc.). We don't even need park maps anymore.

But (and this is finally my point after that L-O-N-G intro) planning and preparation for the trip is the most exciting part. It gets everyone enthused about going and really extends the experience! I mean think about it . . . you plan for so long and then the trip is over in a week or two. You come back wishing you were still there and wondering where all that time went!!

That's why DH and I plan something as soon as we get back. Even if it's not for another six months or a year! That way, you always have something to look forward to. ;)

Here's to overplanners everywhere!!

quick question, be at WL tomorrow. Are there hair dryers in the room?

Thanks for everyones help, especially 999ghosts. Will let everyone know how it went when we get back.

Kimmar-sounds like you get an A+ in organizational skills and playing well with others!:smooth:

What would our families do without us--wander around in cirlces at Disney!:p

aring 75--That is our philosphy, too--always have another trip in the works before your vacation is over! It is just too sad to see a trip end, especially one at Disney! I have my DS sufficiently brainwashed, so he wants to go to Disney as much as I do! DH is outnumbered!;)

Hi!! We'll be @ WL too! We'll be arriving on 8/12 and staying through 8/15 (maybe 8/16?). We'll be there with our 6 yr old twin dd's!!! I have to get my lime green ribbon. I still have a little on my waist pack from last year, as a reminder! Look for us!

duck_adoo--We will look for you:) My DS will be 6 in July!! Wow- it must be hard to keep track of 2 of them!;)

I'll be the one with the big smile on my face!:D
