Robert--Best of luck to you today and here's hoping the doctors don't need any luck. Skill and knowledge is hopefully what the doctors will be relying on.

Make sure you get Linda to take some pics of you to post. You've posted hundreds of her doing various events. How about some of you for a change?

Yahoooooo:drinking1 :drinking1

Make sure to check in ASAP and let us know how everything went!!!!

Bill, how the heck are ya, haven't chatted with you in ages!!!!

Kim

Hi Kim, I want a beer to.

We have been keeping Bill locked up for his own safety. He keeps busting out.

Always willing to have a beer with you and your lovely wife.!!!!!!

Can't wait till we finally.....finallize our plans.......so many options and not enough money or vacation days.....lol

Oh let Bill out for a bit, haven't chatted with him in ages. Maybe this year he will join us at Big River, EPSN, etc, etc, etc....:lmao:

Hoping Robert is doing well!!

I did some hill work today, we have a converted Mount "Trashmoor". Where I normally walk and train is pretty flat as a board. I thought I could use some up and down hill work for the "Overpasses" on the Minnie 15K. Went pretty well, I can't quite keep good racewalking form up or down, but did the best I could.

Take care all!!

At the state and national competitions they put the darn judges at the turns and on the down hill sections.

On the track events they put a judge on each end and the head judge at about 100m from the finish. If you break techniuqe they give 2 warnings (Red Cards) and the third is disqualification.

Thoughts of Robert and Linda - Pray that the surgery was successful and went well! :flower3:

Hope everything went well with Robert's surgery yesterday.

Looking forward that in 5 weeks I will be heading toward WDW for the Minnie. It can't come soon enough.

I have an 8 miler scheduled for this weekend. I have been having some lower back discomfort with my walks lately. Not sure if it is related to walking outside more and doing real hills or that I am trying to increase my speed. But I have had to change to mostly every other day walks so I could have a rest day between. I didn't do much cross training this week because of that also. I hope that it improves next week.

Kim--- So you haven't made a decision what WDW races you are doing? I hope that I am finally able to meet you in person in the future.

Nancy

Thanks Nancy I look forward to meeting you as well. No we haven't decided for sure yet.....I am sure one the marathon gets to 80% full we will ahve to make a decision. We currently have a cruise booked for early Dec and was going to hit disney for a few days prior. Now we are considering giving that up and doing ToT and Marathon weekend.....I want to do all 3.....but apparently we can't afford all and won't have enough holidays...:lmao:

Anyone heard from Robert or Linda?????

Kim

Good morning walking buds and pretty walking princesses.

Nancy, Kim and Mike are fun to hang out with, we do tend to laugh and talk way to much when we are together. You and Jeanne will love them.

I still haven't heard from Linda about how Robert is doing. They are probably bothe sleeping late, I would imagine that they are both drained after yesterday. That and it's only about 7 am there.

Kim, we tried letting Bill out but he tends to get wild and gets me in trouble. You should have seen the pictures of the Italian bike team in their red shorts he posted and blamed on me.

Margie, did you get much snow?

Everyone have a super day, and remember how special you all are.

Sorry to hear about your back discomfort, I know how that is. I'm a newbie, but when I had trouble with my back after my long walks, I read on these boards about the importance of not bending too far forward and keeping good posture. I worked hard on both those things on my next 9 mile walk and didn't experience any back pain after. Don't know if that could be your problem or not; any any case I hope you get it worked out.:goodvibes

Just a tip I learned at my recent racewalking lesson...

Posture is very important so you don't have lower back pain.

I was told to pretend there is a pole going from your feet straight up through the top of your head. Also a pelvic tilt helps ALOT. It is a slight feeling of pulling your belly button toward your spine, or the opposite of pushing out your butt, it makes it much better for your back. I have the correct posture, but am working on the pelvic tilt. Don't lean forward, people tend to do this when jogging or running, not good for walking.
OK everyone, now work on your posture!!

Take care and good walking!!

Wow--thanks for sharing the tips on posture! I heard that ab work also helps strengthen the lower back and relieves that discomfort, too (although I don't think you are supposed to be working out while your back hurts!).

Good news--I'M DOING THE MINNIE!

So now I need your help. I need to spend the next month working on my speed--i need to walk faster (and I am seriously thinking about doing intervals since I don't know if I can walk fast enough--but I DON'T run!). So far, my longest walk is 7.5 miles. I have been using a half-marathon training plan. If anyone has suggestions on how far I should be walking with five weeks to go, I would so appreciate it!

I started a PTR to track my journey to the Minnie... including the surprise I had to TELL dh to convince him this is a good idea! There are duck photos ;) in there, too.

I'm so excited to meet my new WISH friends! :yay:

Yay, Duckie!!!!

The Minnie is 9.3 miles, so you are doing GREAT!! I took MfM's 1/2 marathon plan and had it end with 10 miles the week of Minnie. So, counting this weekend, LR's are 7, 4, 8, and 6. HTH!!

Thank you for the advice! Woohoo!

We'll be doing both-I really want to mark my late-grandma's 85th birthday (which is in April) by doing the Go RED race in her honor. I am working to learn from her mistakes and stop the cycle of heart disease RIGHT HERE. :)

I'm so excited!

Now, are you doing just the 15K? or both?

Hi Anne, you are doing super, I'll be seeing nothing but your cute **** disappearing ahead of me this year at ToT.

Duckie, glad you are getting to do the Minnie, we are having to miss that one but we will be at ToT and the Marathon.

Nancy sorry to hear you are having back issues, have you had it seen about? The only time I have back issues is if I'm real busy with patients and having to sit on that little stool all day. If I can walk around a bit between each patient I'm fine.

Hi Kim, yes yes yes, good friends and good beer and food at Big River, life is good.

Everyone walk strong today.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Big Panda, I don't think (unless something drastically changes for us) DH is going to go for the ToT race. I'll catch you at Marathon weekend for sure, though!

:)

We can probably work that out. :) I'm hoping we are at the Beach Club in January, in the middle of all the action! :)

Sweet Panda, you are waaaaaay too fast to ever see ME passing you!! We will not be at ToT as we have other events in other states to complete! Didn't you know that I was a bling snob? princess: Once I have the medal, I don't do the race again, unless they change the medal. :lmao: Minnie will be my exception. We did the inaugural, then they changed the medal, so we did the next year. Now, it's the last one...sooo we're doing it to have a complete set! :goodvibes
