New veggie options

Sorry that happened to you, but I know the feeling..... some places I just give up and leave because it's too tough....

Pocah, aren't you the one who gets vegan tonga toast?? I think that's why you stuck in my mind!

Hi bavaria, yes, that's me! :) I guess I misunderstood your other post. I thought you were referring to something else, like we had posted on a thread on another board or something. Actually, I haven't gotten vegan tonga toast since that first time. It was just too much trouble, not so much in the asking, but the planning. It's hard to be at WDW and be so scheduled in terms of your meals. When you have special requested something days in advance, it's not like you can really ditch your PS if you get delayed at Space Mountain or something.

And cityofweasels, I know what you mean, too. I'm vegan, and it's tough convenience-wise, especially when traveling. Even if you find a veggie dish, it's more likely than not to have dairy. I recently noticed that Song airline, which used to have a VEGAN (!) sandwich on their menu, has replaced it with a lacto-ovo veggie sandwich instead. :( Why do that, when a vegan sandwich could be eaten by all vegetarians, not just vegans? But if you really want to experience inconvenience while traveling, try vacationing in France as a vegan! :)

That's why I get frustrated when a server lectures me that I must make a veggie request at least 24 hours in advance. It's a VEGGIE request, not even vegan. It's not like a kosher meal etc that does need some special planning in a lot of kitchens!

Hi again,
I am planning on emailing guest relations about the veggie dogs maybe we could get a petition going...
I alway state that we are lacto ovo veggies when making a reservation but I find that the server always seems surprised when I mention it to them as well.
Do they actually note on the reservation special dietary needs?

I wanted to also mention that on our last trip in January our family made its 6th annual stop at Cantina De San Angel at Epcot, we love eating our burritos while sitting and watching the fireworks, but this year when I went to place my order of bean burritos please no meat, my server told me that they could not accomodate my needs, that in fact that asking for no meat was a special order and that they were "too busy" to place the "special order"! (i have been there in the past when it was outrageously busy and this was definitely not the case). The server was not up to Disney Snuff and too be honest I could have asked for a manager, but I was so angry that
I really needed to cool down so instead of blasting a manager and embarrasing myself and my family I walked it off.
I then went to Guest Relations at the park and asked if this was indeed a new policy, and the employee was pretty taken aback that this occurred
she said that she would be contacting the manager of Cantina and took the servers name down, that was that. I was never contacted if the situation was rectified but I am now sad to say I am alittle scared off of going to one of our favourite veggie counters.
Sorry for rambling but I know that you wonderful folks here at the Disboards would understand how that situation really stunk!
thanks
Kristin

Sorry that happened, and I agree, it's not right. Having said that, it is a fact of life sometimes - WDW is not magical in EVERY situation. Sadly, that's why I stick with a core group of restaurants, and rarely do counter service anymore.

I did speak with 2-3 CM's who really encouraged me to write. Look, I do feel that I personally got veggie burgers at DL years ago, after a lot of frustration and tears (there aren't a lot of steller restaurants around DL, or there weren't years ago, mostly like IHOP and Perkins, so if you didn't eat in the park or hotel, too bad)

So writing can have an impact - they have made somewhat of an effort, but last night I was in Michaels and found a veggie cook book for $4 which I was tempted to ship off to WDW to show them how many exciting options there are in the veggie world!!!!

Sorry, have to go wash my hands now as I dripped my mushroom veggie burger all over the keyboard! :goodvibes

I think maybe some cast members are just unaware. One time I asked for the veggie burrito, and the cast member didn't know they could do that. She asked someone else who confirmed my request was okay.
