I need opinions, I am going to be purchasing points at VGC I was orginally going to purchase 150 points and go once every 2-3 years.

I currently have a Feb use year, which doesn't matter as far as WDW is concerned because I don't have a set time to travel and am not worried about my points expireing.

I would go to Callifornia in either June or September but I am thinking with a Feb use year if I tried to bank and borrow my points would expire before I could travel and am thinking of going for the 10 points more and asking for a October use year.

Am I correct in my thinking or am I adding things wrong.

Any opinions would be appreciated

With a February UY, you have until the end of September every year to bank your points.

The idea situation for DVC members is to TRAVEL within the first 8 months of the UY so that if a reservation gets cancelled, points can still be banked.

For travel in June or September, February UY would be fine. June would probably be better, but definitely NOT October since that puts your travel OUTSIDE your banking window.

If you are close to the 160 minimum and really want a different UY, then I would say go for it but to be honest, I think sticking with February would be okay for you.

Plus, when you have 2 UY's, you have two master contracts so the only way to combine points between the two contracts is to TRANSFER points between the two. When the UY are the same, you can just combine points at the 7 month mark. You may find this more of an issue than having the February UY.

I think you miss understand, I already know if I am banking points so I bank way before the deadline my issue is that if I bank 2010 points to 2011 then I have to travel before 1/31/11 or my 2010 points would expire. So if I want to trav el in June 2012 then my 2010 points would expire, if I had an october use year I could travel in June or Sept and not lose my points. That is my thinking and I want to see if I am correct as to the points issues.

You are right, I did misunderstand. I would assume that if you buy now, you will be getting your October 2009 points and will be using those at WDW until you want to save/bank them for a June 2012 trip to VGC.

If that is your plan, then yes, it sounds like it will work. The February UY would force you to use both 2009 and 2010 points before your June 2012 trip.

It also sounds like you are not worried about the 2 different member #'s and transfer situation which is a good thing!

I think the main concern is b/c you're looking to make your first trip in 2012 so your first points can't be used at VGC for that trip. Any future years your Feb UY should be very good to have.

Your Feb 2010 point are valid from 2/1/10-1/31/11. If you bank those then they will be valid from 2/1/11-1/31/12.

A couple other options rather than change UY would be to use your 2010 VGC points at WDW. Rent them out. Transfer them to someone. That way you don't have to have 2 UY's and you don't have to purchase an additional 10 points.

Also - if you purchase an Oct UY you'll get 2009 points so then you'll have those "stranded" if you don't have a trip planned until June 2012.
