New UO Gift Cards

On Novermber 15th, Universal Studios gift cards finally entered the computer age.

Now the cards can be used just like any other gift cards. You load the amount on the card. Then you use the card at any of the registers that accept credit cards. Your purchase amount is deducted from the balance on the card, just like any other gift card or pre-paid credit card. You do NOT exchange the card for UO dollars anymore. The gift card can't be used online but can be used for food and merchandise at the park.

Do the past/current gift cards now work like this, or are there new gift cards that are different?

The new gift cards came out on the 15th. Any old gift cards probably will need to be redeemed at guest services for UO dollars.

An update: these can only be purchased at the parks at this time. They are having a "soft opening" of the gift card. (And you thought only rides have soft openings)

If all goes well, they may be available at a store near you in the future.

Universal posted on their Facebook today that you can also purchase them online. You can choose from your favorite characters around the resort.
