New Universal Commercial? Kinda Rude...

who does he think the parent company of UO is? and as far as the resort's revenue dropping, I hope he has a firm grasp on the relationship between UO and Loew's.

The latest posts seem to getting close to the kind that get threads shut down. Keep it friendly folks! :hippie: It's not like anyone here owns either company and has a vested interest.

While I did not read the entire thing other than one persons comment that thread does not seem at all to be an extended anti-Universal discussion.

No but it does contradict your earlier post that, "The fact is no one on these boards (a disney discussion board) was slamming Universal until Universal started slamming Disney"

Slamming goes on all the time. It is nice to see Universal standing up for itself.

Well, that is not what Bob Gault (president of Universal Orlando) announced 2 weeks ago. It was announced that the profit was up last year in spite of a drop in attendance. I'm still waiting for your source.
Yahoo news, and the orlando sentinel. Do your own research. The information is out there.

I am very familiar with UO management structure, and I perfectly understand the relationship between UO and Loew's. And yes I know that GE is the parent company of UO.

They have to do that because they know people like Disney better. I guess they think they can change people's minds by saying that. Nice try, but not so!

Okay - then my question is... What is there to do for a week in Universal? Honestly. I used to work down in Disney - and took a few trips to Universal and IOA. In 2 1/2 days we had finished everything in both parks. So I'm just curious as to what else they have to entertain. Maybe I'll do some research on the subject now. ;)

I'm kinda curious about this one as well. We had done Disney and done Disney and the kids were really pushing Univ and IoA so when we went in 2004 we bought the tickets that were pay for 2 days, play for 5 (can't remember the real promo name). We went the first day to Univ and the 2nd to IoA and told the kids we would certainly come back as the tickets were expiring and our park hoppers would not. The kids didn't want to return. Noone could've been more surprised than us. It seems my 3 boys who tease me mercilessly for my Disney obsession (I've been known to get choked up at Disney commercials) actually preferred Disney. Our boys then were 8, 11, and 15 - and huge fans of thrillers. We all agreed that the Mummy was hands down the best ride we've ever been on, anywhere, but the rest of the rides didn't blow them away. We also got really sick on Back to the Future and strongly advise anyone against riding that even if motion sickness has never been an issue before. We were happy to have experienced it but if they sold a 2-parks in one day for a decent cost, it would be perfect for us. I cannot imagine spending a whole week there. We've driven and rented a car but really just prefer to stay onsite and use Disney transportation the whole trip.

As for the commercial, I don't like it. I realize that it is my thing though because I don't like anyone making fun of my "happy place". My boys think it is a hoot.

After many great Disney trips we decided to get Universal passes. My kids liked it but I just didn't care for it much. I really, really love Disney but I still thought the Universal commercial was funny. It's actually great advertising for both Universal and Disney.

I don't think spending a week at Universal is what the commercial is all about. I think three days is perfect. One day in each park and one day for favourites. We usually spend 4 so we can do other Orlando things as well.

I think that the commercial is trying to show people that Universal is for kids too. They have no problem attracting adults and teens but need to attract more of the younger group.

I'm a *huge* Disney fan! (as we all are :))

I did see the commercial and thought it was hilarious! It really is funny! Rude...hmmm...okay. Tacky....maybe. Funny....absolutely! We've done Universal and had a great time at the parks and the HRH. Was it Disney? No! Was it fun, did we get great service and would we do it again? Yes!

Universal has always kinda "picked" on Disney but that's what happens to those at the top...others want their spot.

And ya know something...if my oldest has to hug one more princess...I think he really will hurl! (still, even he says there's no place like Disney!) :)

Actually, when you post dubious statistics as fact, it is up to you to provide the source. Without the source, we can't evaluate whether it is a reliable source or not. I feel that Bob Gault is a reliable source. Yours may or may not be reliable. But until you can post a cite, we can't determine its validity.

My statistics are not dubious. They are facts, and were reported in the Orlando Sentinel on November 16, 2005.

Yawnnnnn... Bottom line; if you like Disney go to Disney, if you like Universal go to Universal, if you like both...go to both.

Frankly as an adult male I am hard pressed to find the fascination with the characters, be they, princesses or other assorted "make believe" things. I think the commercial was funny and, in a lot of cases, probably true. Laugh and the world laughs with you.

:confused3  :rolleyes1

:offtopic: BTW, whomever is in charge of the smiles...please lose the "smoking" smile. It really isn't appropriate in this day and age. Thanks!

Ok, I just searched the archives for that date. Nada. Care to post a link? But before we accept the Orlando Sentinel as completely accurate just remember that they were the ones that listed the attendance as up 8.5% for both Universal and IoA instead of down 8.5% for 2005. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=10995746
So their accuracy rate isn't the best. I'd feel more comfortable with a more respected authority such as Business News, CNN, etc.

which can't be googled. once again, just link us to your sources. it's pretty easy to do. this thread is going nowhere fast. you've done a great job Bev, let's leave this guy to stew in his own attitude. you can't debate a closed mind. *runs off to ride Spiderman*

The point of any commercial is to get people's attention.

Considering almost 7,000 people have read this thread on a Disney board, I would say they were right on. :thumbsup2
