They now have unmanned turnstiles at Universal and IoA. You can scan your own AP or ticket and enter the gates. Less time waiting in lines. There are still employees available to help you if you can't get your pass to scan right.

Thanks for the info!

If you arrive when the gate opens, do you know how long does it take to pick up annual passes that have already been ordered? where do you go? do you need to get your picture taken? can you do it later in the day, any tips? Thanks!!!

Hi do they still check your bags as you enter

Yes..they still check bags. As far as the new turnstiles go, once you get the hang of them, they're fine. It's hard to see the "laser line" in the bright sun.

I would head directly to Vacation Services once inside the gate for AP processing. If you go to IOA first, make a left once inside and you'll see the signs. If you go to the Studios first, make a right and the signs are there. You will need to have you picture taken for the AP so make sure your hair is looking nice. :rotfl:

As far as the timing goes, I would go there first thing and get it out of the way instead of waiting for the lines to back up. It shouldn't take long at all..maybe 5-10 mins if there's no line.

Wow, so polar opposite to Disney's bioscan to get in.

Right. Universal doesn't use biometrics on their tickets or passes.

...or waiting until my wavy hair is a wet frizzy mess from the humidity and the rides, ugh! LOL, good point! I'm sure it's going to be a ponytail/hat day anyway, not too concerned.

Thanks for locations too!

LOL...I learned this the hard way. When I took the picture for my AP, it was first thing in the morning and when I took the one for the FF pass for HHN, it was on the way out. BIG difference! I looked like one of the scaractors! :scared1:

well, good luck. We tried to use them, none of the AP's worked. They sent us and practicully everyone else to the *manned* lines. We waited a long time to get through the lines because most of the machines were rejecting the AP's.
I'm sure once the kinks are worked out this will be fine but until then....

I also went to guest services on the way out just to check our AP's because the machine was saying a completely different expiration date then I had. I was right.

Has anyone else had a problem with getting in. I can scan the ticket correctly, but the system doesn't recognize any of my friends or familys annual passes. It always says unable to validate ticket. I asked them and they said that it was the new systems fault, but apparently many of the employees dont know that and they have had to call someone else to veryify my pass. It is really weird.

I haven't had a problem at all with my AP and the new self-serve turnstiles.

we used ours on the 13th & had no problems in the "self-serve" turnstile.

That's exactly what happened to all four of our annual passes. They weren't bought at the same time either. It was happening to a lot of people in line.

I noticed that some of the annual passes worked and it said something like "welcome christiana" or something, but my friends ahev had the same problem. The people behind the turnstiles just hit F2 which automatically validates the ticket. I hope it gets worked out. I'm going today I think so I will see if it works :confused3

Sorry for double posting, but I would like to say that at universal today they used portable scanners and not the new turnstile ones. At IOA the guy told me that many of the passes were not working and he had to manually tally how many people went in through the gate. He was a really nice guy and kept apologizing. Anyway hopefully they will get it straightend out.

Thanks for the update. After they get that fixed they will have to deal with all the people complaining about not being able to use their Power Passes due to the changes they made.

They claimed my dad's AP wasn't valid...my mom's and my AP worked though. But my dad had to go to Guest Services for a temporary pass until they could fix the problem. Yuck!

(BTW - this is Flyfly..too lazy to sign out of my mom's s/n)

Really they made him get a temporary pass. When was this. They have never done that to me, but maybe you guys had someone who was not properly informed of the AP's not working. I had a newbie employee like that once and she had to ask another guy what to do. The guy just hit F2 which automatically accepts the pass and puts it in as a 5 day flex ticket. It is very strange. I always feel like I am not truly in the park when it doesn't recognize my pass, but at least Im not the only one :teeth:
