New TSA Rules - Small knives will be allowed

Really? a knife? I just want to take on my contact solution! :headache:

Hey, last Feb my 3 y/o grandson was drinking apple juice out of a small, clear sippy cup. The TSA agent made us pour it out. Ok, I understand even a tiny 3 y/o is not considered a toddler, but for Pete's sake the cup was clear and the kid had almost finished it. They saw him drinking it, so obviously nothing harmful was in it, yet he still lost his juice. Now we would still have to pour that sippy cup of juice out, yet the guy right behind us can carry on a knife.:headache::rotfl:

:sad2:

You really need to let this go! Kids shouldn't be drinking so much juice anyway, ;)

I don't have any issue with small knives. They already allow corkscrews, knitting needles, plastic knives, ball point pens, etc., all of which could be used as weapons just as easily as a little knife.

I agree the liquid ban is ridiculous and should have been lifted by now.

Most knives will still be prohibited. What's being allowed are knives no more then 2.36 inches long (OP made a typo) and no more then 1/2 inch wide. We're basically talking about the "knives" on most corkscrews.

The TSA can't win. Some people think most of the TSA security rules don't enhance security. Those people think security measures might create a, false, sense of security among travelers. I guess a few posters think, at least some, TSA employees are on a "power" trip. Those people aren't content with any updating of the security policies short of a complete overhaul.

Others think any change of the rules is going to weaken security.

I'll have to admit only reading a headline which says something like TSA now allows passengers to bring knives on the plane sounds scary, unless you read the restrictions.

Some of us think that the TSA is a WASTE of my tax dollars. It's a bunch of poorly trained people "pretending" to be security while harrassing the travelers.

Are we safer now then pre 9/11? Yes. But as a frequent traveler I don't think any of it is due to the theatre. I think it's due to the reinforced doors and the work of REAL law enforcement to identify and address these issues in advance. Not to a show pretending to 'protect' us that has so many flaws it's hopeless. Just yesterday three former Delta employees were convicted of drug smuggling while working at the Atlanta airport. LOTS of drugs. And these are the "trustworthy" folks who the TSA lets carry anything they want into the airport... :confused3

If you want it to work, it has to be consisent. That means EVERYONE. Yes, your 2 year old and your grandmother has the same rules. I can't wear my shoes through the screener because "they might be a bomb" but my mother can???? I can't carry my Starbucks, but the Flight Attendant can????? And so on.

I became a "trusted traveler" Not because I was actually screened but because I fly a lot on Delta.... in essence I "bought" it. Does that signal to you that I am "safer" then someone else? It does to the TSA.

Security also needs to be proactive not "reactive" What we do now is "react" to past events.
