New Toy!!! Sony Nex 3

I finally bit the bullet and got a compact DSLR camera today. I picked up the Sony Nex3 with the zoom lens, and they sold me the pancake 16mm lens for $99 extra (although it's on order.) I got it at Ritz (which is an unusual place for me to purchase.). I'm wondering how the video mode works...

Battery is charging now, but what sold me was the $99 pancake lens, the ultra fast Auto Focus and of course, the APS-C size sensor!

This will be my carry around camera for our disney trip this year!

I was upgrading my Sony Alpha100 ... finally and was seriously looking at the Nex-5. I decided to get the alpha-550 instead... and I'm super happy with it. I'm still sorely tempted by the Nex... just for the sake of it being so small and light.

I can't wait to see your pics and hear how you like it!

Congrats on the purchase - always fun to get a new camera! Looks like a nifty little hybrid - small like an ultrazoom P&S but DSLR image quality and low light ability. I love me my big ol camera, but I can see the appeal of the smaller ones for some folks too - and it looks like those NEX cameras are performing every bit as good as our A550s at the high ISO levels, so don't be afraid to use it!

One thing, though... it's not an SLR. No mirror. I don't know what you'd call it; maybe a mirrorless APS-C?

I went with an Oly Pen a couple months ago, and I haven't picked up the DSLR since. Part of that is the "new toy" syndrome, but part of that is also that it is a damn fine tool. The Olys, Pannys and Sonys, the new mirrorless larger sensor cameras (Oly and Panny are 4/3rds), are really nice cameras.

I've seen on other forums these type cameras are called EVIL cameras (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens)
