New to this. When to start looking for points to rent

For our next trip to WDW in May or June of 2006, we'd like to try renting points and stay at a DVC property. We'd like to stay at a studio at Beach Club Villas for 4 or 5 nights. Should we start looking for points on the rent/trade board a year ahead, 6 months ahead, or when? Do you think it will be difficult to find rental points for this property? Any other advice you can give? We're new to this.

I don't think it will be hard to find a BCV owner to rent points. BCV owners can reserve accomodations 11 months ahead of the desired check out date. Other resort owners can reserve 7 months ahead of check out.

If it were me, I'd start looking about a year in advance. That would give me a month or so to find an owner and negotiate the rental terms before the booking window opens. It's probably not necessary to reserve so far ahead, but BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts. Because of its location and the wonderful pool complex, it's popular. I'd feel beter having my lodging nailed down so I can concentrate on getting good airfare, and the rest of my trip squared away.

There are some disadvantages to booking so far in advance - most rentals are considered non-refundable and you probably will need to pay in advance. Lots can happen in 11 months, so be sure you understand the owner's' payment terms and cancellation policy. Also, some owners charge more for locking in the popular locations at 11 months.

Anyway - good luck! BCV is a great resort and you should have a wonderful time.

I would post now and if you don't get a response right away, bump it every couple weeks or so. As stated above, the owner has the 11 month window to work with so you want to take advantage of that.
