Hi,

I just signed up for Emerald Aisle free with a Northwest promo offer.

My membership is good for 25 years. Can that be right?

I can now reserve an intermediate size car and actually choose a larger car on the aisle (if available) in selected locations. Is this correct?

Thanks, herc

You read right, herc. I joined last year and my membership goes until 2030 something.....

The EA is simple. You pay for an intermediate and you can choose any car on the EA. If there are larger cars, you can take them for the intermediate price. There will also be a lot of intermediates. The cool thing is that you may get a bigger car.

Have fun!

You are welcome, herc.

Always love to help a fellow Minnesotan and Beagle lover out. Do you have a Beagle? Our Beagle, Minnie, is a year and half old. What a good dog. Perfect for the kids, affectionate, and cute. The only knock I have on her is that she has a mind of her own. If she wants to do something, she does it.

Hi,

My beagle, Sam, just turned l0 you, and he is full of the dicken's.

You would not know he is a senior dog by the way he acts! Yes, he's got a mind of his own, too, and I always tell people. "he gets his needs met". LOL. He is a great dog. Both my kids are at college, and they miss him so much.

What you signed up for was the "Emerald Club".

If you reserve an intermediate class car, you can choose any car available on the "Emerald Aisle". You just walk over to the National zone, take the car you want (keys in the ignition) from the clearly marked Emerald Aisle and drive to the checkout booth. The only employee you interact with is the one in the checkout booth. Be sure to have your drivers license, Emerald Club card, credit card, and any coupons ready.

If you reserve a different class of car (e.g. fullsize), and request "Emerald Reserve" service, it works exactly the same. The difference is that you go to the fullsize aisle and get a fullsize car.

The only difference between Emerald Aisle and Emerald Reserve is that you may (or may not) get a free upgrade on the Emerald Aisle. With Emerald Reserve you only get what you paid for.

One point to keep in mind. Though there are still larger than intermediates on the EA at imes, it seems less often than in thee past when it was commonplace for minivans, suv's, fullsized to be sprinkled among the intermediates. There still is at times, but less today than in the past. If you NEED, MUST HAVE, a larger car, best not to maybe rely on that 'free upgrade'. Just a thought.

I must say, after learning of National here on the DIS back in '99, almost all my rentals (one in June was Hertz, and a great experience also), Orlando and elsewhere, have been National/EA, always pleased. Make sure to check this board and also Mary's, www.mousesavers.com for great tips on pricing, codes, coupons, etc.

Ok, bottom line is if I absolutely need a fullsize, better reserve it. Especially with less rentals available since the hurricanes.

actually has two levels of "emerald aisle".

(at least at MCO)

one of the attendants asks us if we were silver or green emerald customers. (color of your id card)

I think silver is some kind of preferred.....

They have different "aisles" for each color.

We've gotten a full size one time....

In May we got a Jeep Liberty which was nice.

But in Sept....all they had were older model Malibus which was small for what we needed (took my infant nephew with us at last minute)....

My husband went in the office and they got us a larger car for a great rate...and helped us out though...
