Hi! We just joined DVC recently and have a question.

Ok...Mom and Dad have 200 point plan.

Myself and DBF love to go to Disney...so we would most likely use DVC when we go from now on since it is a better deal. (My name is on the deed as well.)We don't want to take away from my family's points. In the presenation, our tour guide said that if you needed more points for just one specific vacation, you can just buy what you need. (Not buy the points for use in later years...just for that trip). How much does that usually run per point?

Members usually rent or transfer points to each other at a $10 to $12 price range. If you go to the trade and rent forum you can see all this happening.
You will see member saying that they have 340 points to rent or transfer...you would contact them for the points you need.

You proably misunderstood the guide. DVC doesn't rent out points for only one trip. Maybe your Guide said "borrow" the points? You can borrow from the next use year but they won't rent you one year's worth of points.

Or maybe your Guide was talking about the rental market that exists for points? You can go to the Rent/Trade Board here on the Dis and rent the extra points that you need.

The only other possibiltiy I can think of is that your Guide talked about a cash reservation with the DVC discount. If a room is avaialable, you can receive a 25% discount on the cash price.

Call your Guide tomorrow for calrification.

Good Luck.

No what he told us is that for instance...when you want to go on a Disney Cruise. Some people will pay for the adults in points...and then pay for the children the equivalent of the points in cash.

In the cruise example, you are not 'buying' points. You are paying cash for a reservation. With a cruise you can pay cash for some members of your party if you don't have the points. Each person is paid for in either cash or points, you can't mix the two for an individual's fare. I think you misunderstood your guide.
