I've been checking this site out for a while now, researching our trip in June 2011 and there has been a lot of great information here. We just bought our airfare tickets last Tuesday so it is a done deal! We also booked our stay at a Disney resort (for the first time ever!).
In fact, this is our first trip to Disney as a family and the first Disney trip ever for our two children.
My first time to Disney was at age 8 when I went to Disneyland California with my parents and brother and it was such a happy memory that it is truly a dream come true to be able to do that for my kids. I didn't go back again until I was living and teaching in Japan, where I was thrilled to visit Tokyo Disneyland. That was very cool.
Then not long after coming home from Japan, my brother died suddenly in a car accident - it was his 27th birthday and it was so heart-breaking for our family. Strangely, I don't know if it was a way to cope or heal or what, but within a few months I started planning a family holiday to Florida. I took my parents and boyfriend for our first ever trip to Disney World. We stayed for two weeks off-site at a cheap hotel and we went to all the parks. It really did help us to feel happy again, even if for a short while.
Then I returned to Orlando five years ago during my Honeymoon. My husband and I really enjoyed the Universal Parks and my parents had a timeshare so we stayed at the very nice Cypress Pointe resort in a three bedroom for only $200! We felt like a king and a queen for a week and visited Universal Studios and IOA, Sea World and Busch Gardens but did not do Disney at all.
So now, it will be over ten years since we have been to Disney World and we are taking our two young children for their first trip. This is our first time staying on site for the two of us and we are very excited about the whole thing.
Well I guess now that I've shared my entire "Disney" life story, I look forward to posting and contributing more. I think it will still take quite some time for me to understand all the abbreviations used on this board - it's like learning a new language!!!
