Im New to DVC and scared to death now that I have joined because reading all the talk about not being able to get rooms you want, you know subject to availability. Just how hard is it when you request 7 to 11 months in advance. THANKS

ok, now for getting rooms. I had no problems getting ressies at the 11 month mark for my home resorts and I was also able to switch out at 7 months with no problem. If you're trying for a busy time, call day to day.

Welcome Home and welcome to the Dis-Boards. If you are able to plan 112 months in advance, you will always get what you want, unless it's a standard view on New Year's eve at the BWV. Then you may have to wait list. For the period between 11 months and 7 months you will usually get exactly what you want with a couple of exceptions. Once you get inside of 7 months, you still stand a very good chance except during the very busy DVC periods like early December.

All the moaning has to do with trying to get Christmas reservations at WL or Food & Wine reservations at the Epcot resorts only a few weeks or months in advance.

Don't worry. At 11 months you will absolutely be able to book at your home resort, and the months between 11 and 7 will remain easy unless you're trying to get a GV--which won't really be that hard, either.

As for switching over a 7 months, lots of people do it. It often works on the first try, and when people report about using the waiting list it seems as if that eventually comes through as well.

I'm very new to this too--haven't even closed yet. I can only tell you that we sent in our paperwork on 6-22. Our home resort is VWL. We called on the 24th and got a studio (which is what we wanted) from Nov. 17-24. We are on the waitlist for the night of the 24th. Decided this weekend to try for something over Labor Day and called Tuesday for Beach Club. We got a studio, September 1-6. I know that these may be slower times for Disney, but we were thrilled and surprised that there was availability. We have our fingers crossed that the waitlist comes through.

Remember that EVERYONE is held to the 11-month booking window. If you want to book a stay for 12/15/05, when you place a phone call at 9am on 1/15/05, there are THOUSANDS of unbooked rooms. You only have access to the rooms at your home resort, but that still numbers in the hundreds. I hope you get my drift.

If you know 11 months ahead of time exactly when you want to visit WDW, then call as close as possible after the 11 month threshold has been crossed, and get it booked. Even if your plans change, you have until 30 days before the stay to call and cancel with zero penalty.

Getting a reservation at a non-home resort is a little more difficult, but by no means impossible. Most people here will tell you "buy where you want to stay", meaning your Home resort should be the one you want to stay at the most. That gives you the full 11 months to book.

But in reality, as long as you don't absolutely detest your Home resort, you should be just fine. Many people will call at 11 months and book their Home resort, then when the 7-month window arrives, they will call and try to change their stay to a different resort. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this practice. DVC does not penalize you for it, nor do they charge anything extra.

HBC - 112 months??? That's over 9 years! In my book, that's excessive even for us DVC nuts!

To Huff590 - If you can plan 7 -11 months in advance, you should have very few problems getting what you want. There are only a few times of the year that are tough to book - but you can call day by day at the 11 month mark when MS opens to get those. I've never had a problem getting my BWV standard view room in early December (rumored to be one of toughest to book) when I do that.

We've had success getting into BCV, SSR, and VWL at around 6 months out, and at times that are popular, December and May, and for weekdays as well as weekend nights. It may not always happen, but it has for us so far. I am not sure just how many people could not go on a vacation that they hoped for because they could get NOTHING available, given a reasonable time of planning.

I have had great luck getting reservations. Last Jan I called for a studio hours before my arrival, MS worked at it, but they got me BCV!! Wouldn't recommend doing that, but I was willing to take a day here, a day there, a third anywhere..

I had to waitlist this year for Dec. I called at 10 months and could only get a couple of my days. As soon as 7 months rolled around, MS sent me a new ressie with everything I asked for..

Other than those to cases, we call at 11 months and never have had a problem. Welcome Home!!

I just wanted to clarify this statement. The 11 months is from the date of CHECK OUT. So, if you were going to stay 12/15/05 and only stay one night, you would have to call 1/16/05 to make the reservation. If you want to make a reservation for the dates of 12/15/05 - 12/22/05 you would call on 1/22/05 to make the reservation.
