New Ticket Upgrade Policy?

Sorry, but the above information is incorrect.
Tickets are "sold" (internally) to the resort package "department" (Walt Disney Travel Co.) at a discount.

That's why you need to use the Pkg. tickets before upgrading,
and why WDW PACKAGE tickets could be price-bridged and
why WDW GATE tickets would NOT be price-bridged.

That is why I asked the question. It wasn't intended to be taken as fact. Good information to know! :thumbsup2

Sorry, I'm getting confused.

If I have two day tickets from a DW package that I have never used, I can still enter a park and upgrade them to ten day tickets if I wish. Is this correct?

Good to know...I did not realize that. Do you have a comment on whether there is a new policy or not?

FWIW, I have heard directly from Undercover Tourist that they have not heard of any change in policy regarding upgrades or bridging. I have heard the same indirectly from another discount seller. I have spoken to two different guest relations CMs, and they have not heard about any policy change.

That's not to say it isn't true, but when you combine the above with the notorious lack of knowledge about how to apply bridging properly by CMs who haven't done it before, it seems like there's probably nothing here. People routinely get told they can't upgrade without paying the full price difference, and sometimes that's true, if they bought their ticket from Disney at full price.

Deeply discounted tickets like Y.E.S. tickets and convention "after 2" tickets can't be upgraded at all, so if someone tried to upgrade one they'd correctly be told they couldn't. And a CM might have thought a normal discounted ticket was a deep discount ticket, and given wrong information. It wouldn't be the first time.

So until a CM says they've seen the new policy in writing, I think it would be wise to wait and see.

We'd have to have more sources to confirm or disprove the policy.

On its face, it doesn't seem like a policy that Disney would adopt as
it slashes the life from Disney's established and authorized ticket resellers.

Time will tell.

Looks like you can, (you always COULD) but anything is POSSIBLE.

After my pp I emailed UT directly earlier this evening. I haven't heard back from them yet, but they are usually pretty good about replying quickly. I'll let you know what they had to say when they do.
dmunsil-did you contact them today?

I just got back yesterday from a stay 2/24-3/1. We added a day to our disney purchased package tickets and they charged me 106.00! When I had asked the week before they told me it would be 40.00 to add that extra day! When I enquired, they said that there had been a price increase and that's why it was so much more...seems a little weird to me.

Would the "use them once" even matter since they were purchased from Disney? I thought that was only to get the bridged price from resale tickets.

Sounds like the price increase is to blame for the higher cost. Or would you be able to bridge old price to new price (Disney to Disney sale)

If you buy tickets from Disney as part of a resort stay reservation, the tickets are priced at their value that day. If ticket prices go up after you have made your reservations, you will not be charged for the ticket price increase unless you make changes to your package, such as adding park days, adding a person, upgrading dining, etc.

There is a way around paying the additional cost of the ticket price increase. Plan to arrive at your resort, check in, then use your tickets AS ORIGINALLY ORDERED, to enter a park. After park entry, you do your ticket upgrade, either at a Guest Relations outlet or ticket booth anywhere on property. Not at your resort. The point is, upon park entry your original ticket is now valued at current gate price. Meaning, you won't owe the additional $ for the ticket price increase. You would only owe for the upgrade, at current gate price.

momof2mouses: Many readers here were ignorant of Disney operations but we learned on these boards. Now you know more about ticket upgrades. Good luck for next time!

Interestingly, the All ears team isn't sure about it either and will be checking into it with their "Ticket Guru". WTH?

Haha - might be lots of hullabaloo over nada! Can't imagine they would post that without a reliable source, though.

Whatever the truth is, I won't stop buying from UT. I always tend to overestimate the number of days needed anyway and have no use for the hopper.

I hope that this all turns out to be untrue. It's weird that Disney wouldn't let the resellers know.

This would throw a monkey wrench in my plans. I already linked 5 day tix bought form UT months ago to my two daughters MB's. I planned to upgrade them to the discounted PAP while there because we have another trip planned for December. But if I have to pay the price difference from what I paid for the 5 day tix - I would rather save them for another trip down the road because some times we do only go for 5 days. Then I would have to find out if I can just buy them PAP while there and somehow unlink or not use the fix on their banks. I woukd have to find this out before entering the park with them and activating their tix. And we leave in 13 days.

It's a sign of something. I don't know what though. I simply sent them an email asking if they were sure this was true because I couldn't find any other site reporting this, that I had contacted various third party resellers that I had purchased tickets from and they hadn't heard this, and CMs on fan sites that work for guest relations (or claimed to be, since this is the internet) said they hadn't heard this at all. Could they please confirm or point me in the direction to a source. I did receive a pretty quick reply that they were unaware and would be checking with their ticket guru.

It will be interesting...

I agree too, I would still hope to buy from them. If it is true though I would just use the number of days on our tix and maybe have a relaxing pool / resort day. Which we always talk about wanting to do and it never seems to happen.

OK, so I will never look at All Ears the same again. It's a rumor and a guess on All Ears part. The short, summarized version.

Carry on.

Definitely! That's what my sister said. She was like we spend a lot of money on the resort and don't really use it. We did one pool day at POR last summer. Looks like we may have 4 pool days this year which really sounds relaxing.

FWIW, I called UT last night and left a message (they are closed for the weekend). Around 11 am today, I had a message on my machine from UT! They said that they heard Disney was talking about a possible policy change but outside of that, they were unaware of the actual change. They also asked if I could call them back tomorrow and that they would be speaking to their Disney rep. about the situation. So I guess this is pretty much what others have already posted. We'll see.

I will say that I am very interested to hear what some other sources have to say about it when I hear back from them tomorrow (as they promised to get back to me tomorrow with a definitive answer). I may just do my homework better than All Ears.

Are you saying that's what Allears is telling you, or is just you saying that? Sorry but I was confused by that comment.

,It's basically what All Ears told me in summarization. They don't know if it is true or not.
